@tonystacey3347
@tonystacey3347 Жыл бұрын
I’m in awe of the jigsaw accuracy- yes dewalt are top end tools but I’ve given up trying to cut anything with jigsaws. I have however got a tracksaw which is a game changer for accurate strait sheet cuts. One thing you didn’t mention was blade depth being just a tooth more than the board width makes for a better cut. This vid will be useful for all van builds - everyone has to go round a wheel arch! Bet it gets h high proportion of future hits👍🏻 The big thing here is the work you did with the insulation and the battens on which you’re laying the ply. Don’t scrimp on this or 12mm ply will wobble/bow under weight of thing standing on it. A really top class “episode” with this one Greg - mr V - I salute you!
@GregVirgoe
@GregVirgoe Жыл бұрын
@@tonystacey3347 thank you Tony, you are dead right 👍🏼 the reason I can get away with using 12mm for the floor and not the usual 18mm for flooring is the closely spaced battens and the screw fixings to keep it well secured. Thank you for such a great comment 🙏🏼😊

Thank you for explaining the saw blades and the significance of the two different facing blades. I finally get it! Keep up with the detailed videos. Loving this series
@GregVirgoe
@GregVirgoe Жыл бұрын
Most blades are up cutting because the pull against the saw base and work like a scissor pulling the base down to the workpiece. Sometimes you need to cut on the face but don’t want loads of chip out. So that’s when a down cutting blade is really handy. Just have to take it easy so it doesn’t jump around.

Keep up the good work up to meet you at one of the festival sometime as I have been a subscriber now for 12 months and I’ve still not started to tell you the truth I have started, I was just gonna say I’ve not started on the van but I have started to put the flooring today. Should finish it off tomorrow. Obviously rain stop play but just loving everything but I’ll get over it over the year buying bits and pieces off, obviously watching yourself and John on Mandy you truthfully are an inspiration I’ve even that she brought my wife into this, even though she’s an air stewardess. It’s one of them things, even though it’s only a small wheelbase Vauxhall vivaro which she does called the postage stamp, but when she sees it finished, I’ll be a total different but it will be just the weekend. Thanks for everything. Keep up the good work.

Really enjoying this build. We have done caravan holidays for 20 years, always stayed on sites & used their facilities, only showered in the caravan twice! My wife doesn't want to wild camp so I will be doing a similar build to this with under-sink jerry cans instead of huge water tanks, but with a toilet cubicle for privacy on a LWB van. This is brilliant tuition, just what I need.

Best Van conversion channel bar none. Be nice to have your expertise on other things "non-build" like, Insurance, a how to, best insurer, etc, as there are so many conflicting websites saying one thing or another. Again thank you, my mates now watch you too.

Thanks Greg, as you said, sometimes self-builders skip quickly through this bit. I'm looking at finally getting a build sorted once I find the right van, thinking a Boxer. Enjoying this series, and will be referencing it. Cheers

nice expanation of saw bades and how to use a jigsaw. The two saws that frigthen my wife are Chainsaw and Skil (Circular) saw so she will use a hand saw to cut full sheets. I have a couple of 6 inch metal profile gauges that I have owned for years that I use for corner/curve profiles. Well worth the cost in my mind

Yes chainsaws do need a lot of respect as things could easily go very badly with them 🫢

17:26 this is such a great idea! This angle really helps get the board snug to the wheel arch. Thanks so much!

Yes indeed, there is always a small radius that you don’t account for that makes the floor hard to fit. This 15° allows it to lay flat first time 👍🏼😃

Thank you Greg I am attempting to do my own van build. My late husband was a great woodworker. It warmed my heart seeing your wife/partner/friend holding the board while you sawed. My build will take a long time as I don’t want to rush it and make mistakes. I’ll keep watching your videos for guidance.
