I have been involved in getting the word out for action for over 56 years. Few in leadership have listened or acted. What Greta is accomplishing is to create sustainable pressure on leadership to site down and create action. We have the solutions but so far not the will. Change is coming whether the world's leadership wants it or not. She is waking a new generation who will fight for our human survival. My generation lit the candle, they will build the heat of change.

I attended the climate change walk in Montreal where my family and I reside. It was a moving experience seeing the thousands there, young and old at Mount-Royal Park. I need not state the obvious that our young people, inspired by the 16-year-old Greta, have started a global movement regarding climate change. This movement is empowering us all to speak out, especially our children and grandchildren. As a grandfather, and someone who is well-read in science, I was fearful of the future for my children and grandchildren but now I know there is hope. My generation, known as the baby boomers, are the product of hope for a better future. Following a disastrous war, where millions died, we were encouraged by society to achieve prosperity at any cost and thus we did. We raised our children, your parents, to have three or more of everything, when only one would suffice, thus, we degraded and stole life-sustaining resources from other living things in our ecosystem. Today, our children, your parents, tell us that this is wrong and we are beginning to listen. Young people, cannot wait for us old folks to act and so they shouldn't! In very few years, their generation, which is being prepared to act, will be able to participate in our democracies and "make change and sacrifice", where needed. Have hope. We are an intelligent species and we will meet the challenges needed for our survival and that of other living things. Our children are our future and the future is theirs to take hold off as soon as possible and not listen to the old farts, who count the future in pennies saved at the pump, rather than lives saved from extinction. March on my young friends and don't look back at the haters and those who dwell in misery. iliasleousis.blogspot.com/2019/09/episode-xlii-open-letter-to-greta.html

SparkleeUnicorn777 P I am not sure what your point is. How I have benefitted and the fact that it carbon tax hurts the poor. In Canada, low income families are subsidized for the carbon tax. The point in all this is that while you and others are playing the blame game, you are also deliberately working with the big oil companies to continue to continue business as usual. Yes, batteries also pollute but compared to the amount of fuel which is not burned durring the life of a battery. If you can't be part of the solution keep out of the way so we can at least try.

@@stephenberson7236 Well - our election was a climate election. It was the main topic - and in the end we got the strongest green mandate ever in Europe. (The new gvt has promised to try - it is still not totally clear how - to lower CO2 emissions by 70 pct before 2030).

@@mochtegerndane7097 The main problem is to get world cooperation to convert from fossil fuel and coal to green energy. The fossil fuel industry has too much money involved to cooperate plus they pay off bribe money to government officials. Private citizens have their money invested in fossil fuel. Other than solar, wind and hydro and possibly some nuclear a new technology is needed to take over from fossil fuel which isnt available now. Billions of trees need to be planted. Population growth MUST be controlled where a maximum of one to two children per family must be initiated because at the rate we are going the carbon footprint will only get worse. MAJOR changes must be made to come close to the 1.5 that is required by the Paris Agreement. To be honest mankind will have to cope with higher sea levels which means many will have to move inland. Farming will require indoor farming due to heat waves and poor soil.Eventually fossil fuel will have to be outlawed. Extinctions will continue of plant life, animal and insects. It will be a compromise because a total turn around of C02 is unrealistic. Greta is correct, our world leaders in government and business dont feel the house is on fire and or they are selfish and want to live for today and dont give a damn about their children or grandchildren.
@stephenberson7236
@stephenberson7236 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaellovullo7363 Progressives are willing to think outside the box and willing to make major changes such as converting from fossil fuel to green energy where conservatives are in fact conservative and not willing to make the major changes required to eliminate fossil fuel which is the main problem. By the way conservative politicians fully support fossil fuel because they are paid cash bribes to support them. You are talking nonsense that you would be willing to eliminate cancer research and stop caring for cancer patients to support climate change. Changes will be needed but as they say you dont throw out the baby with the bath water. It will not be an easy fix so creative action will have to be taken where sacrifices will be made. For certain some islands and sea level locations will recede and flood permanently where people will have to move inland. Hopefully mankind will come up with solutions to lessen the potential damage.

I am Scandinavian. This girl is at my familys dining table - changing the eating habits of all of us. She is in the classes of my boys - changing the transportation choices for school journeys. Plane travel is out of the question. She has inspired the kids to stop shopping - new clothes are only second hand. She is even in the board rooms up here - just today Mærsk, the biggest shipping company in the world, announced, that it would go away from oil asap. What Greta has done is to empower her own generation, in a way I have never seen. No wonder, the black industries hate her.

@@stevenvanholme9888 by the same token, why are you making a big deal out of it? I'm comparing what is a big crowd to some, that may not be to others. I'm Pro Greta and Pro fighting Climate Change. Have been all my life. Since I was raised by a boy scout leader, collected cans from the sides of roads. Participated on the first Earth Day in school back then. And my GF is from Sweden and I've followed Greta and her progress since day 1. That she showed me an article in their English language paper there that she reads, about Greta. Jimmy Carter tried to get us off oil way back in the late 70s, set MPG standards and trying to create pollution controls on cars. Reagan came in and trashed it all. Blamed it for the failing economy, that was left over from Nixon. It's all relevant. Sweden is a country with a land mass the size of California, while only having the population of a tiny state like mine. Again, relevant because NJ pollutes way more then Sweden does. People fail to make connections because they aren't looking for them. Most people are blind or ignorant to many things happening right in front of their faces every day! Your comment is even more irrelevant then mine.
