I have been listening to Zeppelin for around 38 years now and I only see a slight resemblance. The boys are influenced by soooo many other fine musicians that many mid-20 year old youngsters would scratch their heads in dismay. For example, Maria Makeba, Labi Siffre, Cat Stevens, John Denver, Muddy Waters, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, you name it. They are old souls and we need them in today's plush-auto-tuned-computer-snap-beat-ever trash. So, a wine toast to the saviors of rock and roll: Greta Van Fleet! Time to pass the torch over, past rock gods.

I love that you said "I like it already" Kel, before Josh had even started singing and your smile throughout said it all! I also agree that he has a higher register than Robert Plant and I actually like his voice better. And while some of their songs are clearly influenced by LZ (Highway, Safari, Curtain) they are also clearly moving away from that sound and finding their own sound. I love Edge of Darkness, Age of Man, Brave New World, Watching Over and Lover Leaver the most as they all sound the most like THEM. The best band on the planet right now imo!!

My favorite is highway Tun e. The first time I heard them, my mouth fell open. A co-worker who was very young asked me if I liked Led Zeppelin. I said yes. She said listen to this. I couldn't believe tis type of music was being made in 2018. When I got home I listened to them again. I looked at comments and they were all positive. Most people did feel they sounded like Zepp but didn't care. One guy said something like God didn't want Led Zeppelin to end so he created Greta Van Fleet.. I love this band too. I was hoping more bands would come out and heavy metal would make a comeback. I guess they have a new album coming out.

Someone may have answered your question earlier. Josh the singer and Jake the lead guitarist are twins. Their brother Sam is two years younger. Their friend Danny the drummer is the same age as Sam. They have been friends since childhood. Their dad is an amazing harmonica player in a blue band when he’s not at work as a chemical engineer. Their parents have an extensive vinyl collection that the boys heard from the time they were little.

It was so cool to watch the both of you react to this band. They are my number one favorite band of the last decade I'm going to say. To me they sound a lot like 70s heavy metal and who to personify 70s heavy metal more than Led Zeppelin? So if there is an argument that could be made that they are Zeppelin sound alike , I'm okay with that because you can't go wrong having that particular sound! I'll leave that there. I have not figured out why people are so angry that they sound something like the British rock band that tore everything up for 10 years. I have seen a lot of reaction videos where people my age who remember Zeppelin as a band are ecstatic and very enthused that this retrosound can still be made with brand new music. Sorry if we wanted to go the route that they are Zeppelin sound alikes, what is so wrong with that? I mean it's like they pick up where Led Zeppelin left off and they're writing brand new music and that sound that that wonderfully gated sound however they Amplified their guitars and get the drums... I mean seriously you got to get the the albums and listen to them top to bottom. They are just astounding to me that they can make this kind of music in this day and age when everything is so digitized and played with computers and ultimately to my ears boring. I can't get enough of this band and I am waiting for their third album to come out. Got to check out.. they did to covers...you'll find them easily enough obviously. But I'd love to watch you guys react to everything else that they've got out there because they really are all that and a bag of Doritos... Led Zeppelin haters aside!

@scyphe

I don't agree about the claims that they ripped off Zep. However, they clearly know the Zeppelin catalogue VERY well and it's extremely apparent in certain songs (Safari Song, When the Curtain Falls and Highway Tune) where the Kishka twins have brought out their inner Zeps beyond any doubt. Vocals in those songs are sprinkled with plenty of obvious "Plantisms", esp. the use of 'mama' which is a dead giveaway with his guitarist brother playing plenty of licks and riffs that are very reminiscent of Jimmy Pages style. The songs on the other hand are entirely original and very catchy although not comparable to the song writing skills of the Zeps. The first song KnR reacted to actually doesn't sound that much like Zeppelin at all; you can clearly hear they have a style of their own that they're developing. In the end, I understand some of the criticism they've got but I was never bothered by it. I hope they'll keep getting better at writing their own songs without the need of borrowing so many influences (esp. like in the three songs I mentioned earlier) from granddaddy Led Zeppelin. If they had reacted to Safari Song first I'm pretty certain they'd hear the Zep in it.

I've been following these young men since pretty early on. Very few people had heard of them at the time. The thing I have found most impressive is that their sound has really evolved. No question at the beginning they were mostly a Zeppelin clone (although they claimed they had more of an affinity for Aerosmith). They have since grown to find more of their own sound. Their latest track "My Way Soon" is far less derivative of Led Zeppelin, however, it definitely harkens back to 60s and 70s rock, with a little bit of a Southern Rock vibe. Btw, my daughter and I saw them live back in October of last year (pre-covid) and they were great. I'm 54 and my daughter is 21. Had a very diverse crowd too, good mix of young and old.

Saw them live in 2018 and they where brilliant. love their work, I hear a lot of Rush in them to be honest. If you like Greta you will probably enjoy Airborne too.

Zep yes, but the first song has a feel of early Judas Priest (B4 leather). They must have grown up in a rock household. Oher songs have other influences; Stones, Sabbath, Purple.

I am excited for you to go on the Greta Van Fleet journey. It is a short journey so far since they only technically have 1 and 1/2 albums but it is a frickin’ packed journey with some stellar and amazing material. Plus, they are simply great, humble lads with 60’s soul.

I feel they pay homage to the greats of the early 70s and the very early rhythm and blues of the South

They have the same influences as Zep and people think they sound like Zep not realizing how Zep took so much of their inspiration from the blues. Ive seen them live twice, once opening for METALLICA. They are the real deal, in a world of horrible music, they are MOST WELCOME!
