So few people talk about horsehair braid, it's nice to see it demonstrated and get some good tips for how to use it!

Wow! I totally get Gertie now. Present day she has lost weight & gotten a bunch of tattoos. Still love her projects, but she has morphed... What a difference 7 or 8 years makes...

I use horsehair on satin and other fine fabrics for Prom and wedding gowns. If you don't want a visible hem on the right side of the fabric, you can do a blind hem stitch, placing your presser foot on the horsehair. If your thread is a good match to the fabric, and your stitch width is set properly, the stitches will be virtually invisible on fashion fabric.

What fabric is the blue skirt? I like it a lot and I would like to use it for making Vintage Skirt & Cummerbund Sewing Pattern S3841 pattern. Thanks

Would a walking foot help to prevent the puckering you warn against at around 7:33?

This is an awesome video....when I lived in Los Angeles 30 years ago, I use to go to the thrift stores and buy my clothes. I always wore dresses from the 40's. I loved the rhimestones on the top front of the dresses, with heels. Thank you

The only thing I've ever sewn before is an apron, and I've darned socks. Do you think this is too big of a project for me to take on? My Mum has a lovely sewing machine I can use... which fabric is best for this type of skirt and for a beginner? GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY!

Hello I have seen this 50s skirts were the skirt has fullness from top to bottom, can I use horsehair braid from top to bottom, or how I get that fullness without using tutu-like.

Love Gertie! Took her bombshell dress class on craftsy.com and I'm so glad I did. Learned a ton of new techniques and made a beautiful dress. I preordered her book on amazon, can't wait 'til I get it!

I love the skirt. My only problem is that I may not get the Horsehair for the tail of the skirt. I love the effect it gives it. Wowwwww.

I wore these skirts in the 1950’s. We never put the final line of stitching on with the sewing machine. That was done by hand. They are very comfortable to wear and flatter most ladies.

Hate when they say they will show you how to make a skirt or whatever and like this she is mostly just talking about the hem and the horsehair. I want to see the project from beginning to end.
