2023 and Me’Shell and Pino together are just amazing. Her barky tone is just amazing at the end. Sheesh.

As a big fan of Glasper and his many renditions of this song, this is STILL my favorite rendition. Props to Justin Brown and Pino holding down this nasty groove!

If you don't know Meshell Ndeogeocello your musical knowledge is lacking. She's easily the most well know musically of this bunch (at least here in America). She and Pino damn near rate Hall of Fame by now. Its not about hits but musical gravitas: they both have it in spades!!!!
@zeruchofficial6 жыл бұрын
Actually Manu Katche is pretty top rate in terms of visibility (probably more than Pino due to his stints with Sting and Peter Gabriel), and certainly the most famous of the people on this stage in Europe, where this show was filmed.

Gretchen works extremely well with more percussion. She should have toured with a percussionist all along. Meshell colors this Herbie Hancock song, (originally rearranged by drummer Norman Connors for vocalist Eleanore Mills) with bass and additional percussion.

Anybody have an Idea: after Gretchen's Performance there was Michellndego Nchello playing the Bass ,dedicated the Song to a Political Singer who just passed. During the Song was a bass battle between her and the bass player (think he is from the netherlands" ) Please help me I cant find it.🤔

Hi ,gonna need some help. 2/3 Songs after Gretchen, Mecheel played and sung a Song to commemorate the death of a Famous Friend and Songwriter (very political). It went into a great Bass "Battle" between her and the Bass Player I knew the Artist and the Song ,but can't get them up out of my Brain. If someone could help me out would be great 😊 I JUST GOT IT , "GILL SCOTT HERON" but cant remember the Song. I would love to see this part of the concert her. Thanks

I know: Gretchen Parlato up front singing, Pino Palladino playing bass alone at first, Justin Brown is the drummer on stage right without the hat, Gerald Clayton is on keys, and Alan Hampton is on the acoustic guitar. I have no clue as to who the other two are.

Yes indeed, words by Jean Hancock (Herbie's sister) and music by the master, himself. Gretchen's father is bass player, David Parlato (early Frank Zappa's band). Herbie met Gretchen at the Thelonius Monk Institute at UCLA, where he taught, and gave her the song written on plain paper by his sister. Sadly, Jean lost her life in the Delta Air Lines Flight 191 crash on August 2nd, 1985 at DFW. Live well, and love. Life is a short and wonderful occasion.
