I met her dad nearly 20 years ago. He was a mechanic, and the shop's waiting area wall was covered in newspaper clippings about Gretchen. I commented, "Wow! You must be a Gretchen fan!" He smiled and said, "Yes, I am. She's my daughter!" My car needed a starter, and when he finished fixing it, he said, "No charge!" We spent about an hour talking about Gretchen. He was very proud of her and her accomplishments.

I have a great story about Gretchen. If you are reading this don't be shy if you remember this. It was in Sanford, Florida at The Barn. I won a contest for answering trivia questions on a local radio show. They called me and said I won back stage tickets to meet Gretchen and the band. I was on duty but got hooked up and I loved in that area. I drove from Jacksonville, FL and brother in law came with me. He is a huge black guy and they thought we were part of the band, lol! They said she was done and I did not get to meet her and one of the ladies on the bus asked if I was the guy in the Navy and said get up in here! Gretchen welcomed us as well as the ladies on the bus with open arms. We chatted and she made me a Crown and coke. What a humbled person and I was so proud to have met her. I still think she is a person along with the music mafia that would always be invited to a BBQ or cookout. Thank you for the memories and what a helluva concert! That was when Larry the Cable Guy lived in Sanford and believe he gave her a puppy!

We love Gretchen Wilson!The first concert I ever took my daughter to was Gretchen and Trace Atkins in St Louis in 2006! She now lives close to Pocahontas, Illinois where Gretchen grew up! There’s a sign acknowledging her “Pocahontas proud” I’ve seen it a million times but still love to look at it and always let the person riding with me know this is the home of Gretchen Wilson! So happy she’s performing again, She’s amazing, one of my favorites!! ❤

I'm a Gum Holler TN hillbilly and first time I heard her I said the same! My dad (and grandpa, uncles) was a moonshiner for real! Grew up with outhouses, fried squirrel and rabbit if we were lucky to eat, and five kids heating water on a coal stove in our living room for an old galvanized tub that we all bathed in. Thank you for doing this interview. Oct 28th, 2011 my wife and I went to the Grand Ole Opry. It was Charlie Daniel’s 75th Birthday. Earlier that month on Oct 12th Charlie Daniel’s keyboard/piano player was killed in a car accident on his way to meet the tour bus. Gretchen Wilson came out sat on a stool and sang the most beautiful tribute song I’ve ever heard to honor Joel DiGregorio. There was not a dry eye in the entire crowd. To this day I don’t know the name of the song. I’ve combed the internet and even called the grand ole opry to see if it is in their archives. Is there anyone here that was at the Opry that night? Does anyone know what song she sang and if it was recorded at any time? Any insight is greatly appreciated!
