The Gretsch Streamliner Junior Jet Club G2215 P90 is a budget guitar with lots of features and great playability. I was pleasantly surprised with the range of sounds this guitar can produce. With a great neck also! I put it through it's paces in this review and demo video.
Thanks to Guitarworks Canada for lending me the guitar for the demo. Check them out here: guitarworks.ca/

Good variety of sounds, the bridge pickup crunches really well but the neck pickup has to be wound right down as it's louder. Only issue I found is build consistancy is iffy so you might have to play a couple to get a good one. Definately replace the Chinese lucky bag toggle switch with a Switchcraft one before it falls apart.

I got one for $250 on a MusiciansFriend flash sale. I hadn’t done any research it was really just an impulse buy but, wow I am blown away by the quality. I got the Sahara gold metallic finish and it really looks phenomenal in person. My only gripe is the bridge pickup is microphonic so when I turn up gain or volume it squealed a lot. I swapped it out of a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat which is a P90 in a humbucker casing and now this thing is perfect. I know it seems silly but, the most impressive thing to me after owning it for a few months is how nice the tuners feel and maintain pitch. No idea how they can offer it at $400 but, I think Gretsch also gets overlooked because these should be out of stock all the time imo.

I love the look, and the tone is spectacular. The only concerns I have with mine are that the frets are very sharp, it does a lot of buzzing, and when I shake it, there is a weird rattling noise. Are these just gretsch things?/does anyone have any advice on how to fix these?
@FretSuccess
@FretSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
There were a couple of sharp frets on the ones I used. The buzz and rattle may be something that's slightly loose on the guitar or something around the bridge that's slightly loose. If it was me, I would take it to a local technician to get a setup and they should be able to sort it out for cheap. It will make the guitar play its best too. Money well spent.

My friend has this guitar and we’re in a band together just for fun. I want to get my own electric guitar and it’d be cool if it complimented the sound of hers. Do you have any recommendations for guitars that might sound good with this one? I want something that has more of a grunge sound to contrast the clean sound of her guitar.
@FretSuccess
@FretSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! What kind of budget are we talking? Do you have an amp or pedals that can do grunge? Those are equally, if not more important. Lot's of guitars are grunge. The first guitar that comes to mind is a jazzmaster, lots of tone variety there. The new american II series are great. SGs can also be a good option of even an se PRS (just doesn't look as grunge, if that's important to you)
@mg-yu5od
@mg-yu5od 2 жыл бұрын
@@FretSuccess thanks for responding! I don’t really have a budget but the most I think I’d ever be willing to spend would be around 500 dollars. I don’t have an amp but I was planning on buying one when or if I decide on a guitar I like. I don’t have pedals but they’re something I will be buying in the future. But this would be my first electric guitar so my main focus is getting something reasonably affordable. It’d be cool to have a cool looking guitar but it’s not my main concern. But overall I’d like something in my price range that I would be able to play alt indie rock and 90s grunge type of music on. I don’t know much about electric guitars since I’m self taught and relatively new to playing guitar. But I figured a good place to start is with a guitar that I already play for my band. So sorry that this was ridiculously long but I hope that gives you an idea of what I want.

@FretSuccess
@FretSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
It will smash all of those genres. You may not get all beach boys/beatles tones with just this (they used a lot of different guitars with various pickups but with some EQ tweaks on the right amp then you should get close/in the ball park. It will cover the modern stuff you want very well perhaps except RHCP as they generally use standard single coil guitars, like fender Strat. This has more of a Les Paul type tone. Hope that helps.

@@FretSuccess The plastic buttons let the guitar down and tbh I have found I need to tune it every day before playing it. It really doesn't hold tune very well for any length of time. @FretSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
@@talkychris Yes the plastic buttons are a bit cheap but not surprising given the low cost of the guitar. They spent the money getting the neck good and using decent pickups. I did notice some in and out tuning but this is likely fixed with a nut upgrade and better tuning pegs/machine heads. The weight is subjective. some like the weight of heavy guitars and others want a light strat feel. Hope it's still working out for you. a reasonable guitar setup and slight hardware upgrade will probably sort you out. I often judge a guitar by it's neck first and playability. This one just delivered on those very well for this price range.

@@FretSuccess Still very pleased with the guitar and at £275 certainly wasn't expecting PRS levels of finish. One thing i would say is I don't get much tone difference using the tone knob. There obviously a difference between the tones of the pickups themselves but rotating the tone knob makes very little difference at all. I hope my wiring is good inside.

@@contactolequotidien8492 I haven't played that model but it looks and sounds great. It's got a bigsby trem also, which are fun too. They are in different price ranges. If you have the money I would say go with the G5655

The clean sounds very dry and lackluster. You can hear this guitar wants to be in the dirty zone.
