Simon Le Bon partnered with producer/songwriter Nick Wood in 1985 to produce Grey Lady of the Sea, Simon Le Bon's first solo recording, and in 1988 they formed Syn Records.
This is a different mix from the version that was released on CD in the 80's (and from that which appears mid way through the video with narration) featuring more chimes during the verse.

Why was this song never widely released ? It was only released in Japan in 1988. It NEEDS to be released in the USA and Europe. This is one of Simon's best. The lyrics and the melody are so haunting and stir all of us that go out to sea.

I love Simon's voice and I said so but someone saw fit to abuse the greatest band in the world whose music and talent have kept them going for 40 years, I want Simon to record a solo album, his voice is perfect. xx

It is not an Arcadia song, just as it isn't Duran Duran. As it says right in the credits of the video above, it was done by Simon along with Nick Wood (same friend of his with whom he did Dream Boyz & Nobody knows). It is offcially considered a Simon Le Bon solo song. I admit, it certainly sounds like Arcadia, and I had long thought that Nick Rhodes did the keys...until I saw the credits of the Drum DVD and found out it (and all the other instrumentation) was done by Nick Wood!

Such a great song, and though Duran were now post-RIO this still kinda has some of that fab-5 flavor. Definitely love the use of the AVTAK "screech" sound effects from 2:22-2:32. Simon is a brilliant writer, and probably could of had his own career apart from DD...you have to respect his loyalty to his band.

I think this took its cues from Arcadia as opposed to the other way around, as I'm pretty sure this song was recorded in 1986, well after the So Red the Rose sessions...but yes, it absolutely sounds like Arcadia. I'd say Nick Rhodes' synth style had a definite impact on Nick Wood!

There was a scary episode (1986?) when Simon was out on his boat with his crew. It capsized, and I remember frantically worrying. No instant news back then.

Amazingly wonderful Documentary of the DRUM's yacht race. Just purchased a copy for our library from Amazon, after watching it on Netflix last week. As an added plus, the arrival of this song written by Simon LeBon describing his adventures onboard. I'm desperately trying to find where I could purchase a copy in cd or mp3 format, but so far I'm coming up empty. Amazon no longer carries it, nor does iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
