A pleasant surprise to see the odd episode where the dollar-signs aren`t stacking up higher and higher as the technician investigates the problem. And by that, I mean the technician isn`t finding more and more and more damage that requires parts be replaced. Sure, it`s nice to see damaged machines get fixed and live on, but it`s refreshing to see an easy fix once in a while 😎
@minnesotatomcat Жыл бұрын
Simple fixes like that are always the best! God bless people that actually keep their equipment clean and maintained, it makes a world of difference to the people that have to fix them when they’re not a greasy oily mess or so rusted up that you have to heat every nut and bolt to take anything apart. Great vid bud 👍

I never had any luck doing a one cylinder click test. Always clicks one time and stops. So if I need to test one that is intermittent, I do a two cylinder. Naturally the two that share the common. You must have felt the problem was under the valve cover. As I like to pull the base connector first and since it was a open, I jump the circuit and make it a short. Then plug it back up and see if fault returns. I like to replace the nut connector as it was arcing and position the terminal in another spot as well. And don't yell at me, I have replaced broken springs on EUI's and solenoid's. On high mileage engines I don't like putting one new injector with a bunch of worn out ones. Just finished up a 7FB fuel system job in a PACCAR. Haven't seen one of them in awhile, so I had to paint it white. Sort of a rare truck, had air lift on the hood, factory installed low coolant level sensor, manual tach and speedo drive cables. It was also in a serial number range that I dislike. Cat put a plastic filter screen in the fuel system camshaft. Over time it can melt, come apart and or back out. I keep one in my tool box, as we don't stock them. Also had to put a snubber in the manual fuel psi connector, to slow down the bounce. Still had a bounce, told customer to add another one and see how it functions. And a 7LG ECM only came in with EUI codes. All six EUI codes was logged. They had a problem of getting water in the ECM. On the fresh air line, I make it real long hose and put at least three coils in the hose to trap any moisture. On the boost hose you have to order a special fitting from vintage parts. Replace hose fitting etc. Last time I priced a REMAN ECM, TDC, and personality module was, 8.5K. Most personality modes now are obsolete and you cannot get them any more. I purchased a adapter from torque wrench to socket. www.amazon.com/PANOVO-Change-Adapter-Electric-Screwdriver/dp/B076SDNJ8M/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=9%2F32+nut+driver+bit&qid=1696697144&sr=8-5

I haven’t had any problems with our C-12 in my departments ladder truck but we did have issues with the oil pressure sensor so we thought but it ended up being a clog in the return line. The sensor did go bad after awhile but both were fixed with no problems. It’s a 2002 and runs great 😊

That cracked injector I have seen from fuel restriction before causing the injector to fire dry and heat up and crack and also water I have seen cause that as well.On cats it rare it’s restriction because of how it receives fuel from the head but I can say with confidence that crack is caused from heat most likely because of lack of lubrication. On 2 cycle Detriots injectors will do that when the return valve gets plugged up and the fuel flow pretty much dead heads and bam injector explodes.

For the injector - even at six sigma, one in a million parts is gonna be faulty. Of course, engineers do our best to aim higher, but everything has an error rate. That one must have been just a bit overhardened, and as metal fatigue got to it, it blew up catastrophically.

What do you think of the 3176 Cat 😂Have one in the old 1990 Kenworth T450 dump truck I drive. Still running the truck has well over a million kilometers not sure about the engine its still running. The air compressor drive gear rattles so loud you can't hear any other engine knocking lol.
@johngoldsmith6629 Жыл бұрын
Lot of problems when they first came out. You had the 2YG, 7LG (3 ranges) and 9CK (3176B) the drive gear has a updated gear for the air compressor drive and power steering drive gear. Front cover inner and outer likes to crack, have to put updated bracket head to front cover. And on some alt bracket and A/C bracket. 2YG and 7LG can get water/moisture in the ECM. Updates you have to do to prevent this. On 2YG and 7LG if ECM fails you have to have a ECAP and timing indicator group to calibrate the sensor while engine is running. Also had issues with a coolant leak at water pump to oil cooler connection. Personality modules on 2YG and 7LG's are just about all gone. If you have one of these better make sure you can keep water out of electronics, as all three parts cost 8.5 K. So what engine do you have?
