Great video. And also an example of how you don't have to go to the wilds of the back of beyond to capture photography and film of a lovely bird. Thanks again for an interesting video.

Hi Mike, Great video as always. I use the Ninja V to capture in ProRes for many of my cameras. Great functionality and nice to view a bigger screen when shooting manually - which I do most of the time when filming wildlife. To turn the Ninja V off, you simply hold the power button until the screen goes off.

Hi Mike, I use a Ninja V and find it excellent. I use it primarily for live acts. Yes, it is battery-hungry, so when I'm doing the live acts, I use a GOLABS leger battery. However, it is heavy to carry about, so it's okay when you're set up in a hall. Out in the field, I have the bigger battery, 7.2V 8700mah 62.6Wh. Great video, and it's nice to see the Grey wagtail.

Thanks Martin. Mine came with two batteries, little and large, but I avoid using it other than to do KZbin demos.

Thank you for sharing these delightful images and videos. We don’t see wagtails here in California, so it’s quite a thrill to see your beautiful captures. I always appreciate your insights and fieldcraft.

WOW just had a visit of one in my car parking on the back of the garden here in Jeddah, they are usually the first to arrive on migrations some times the last week of July, but most the numbers come to winter now on mid October, and they stay until March.

Great video Mike, I love photographing the Grey Wagtail. I have the Atomos Shinobi v1 monitor, doesn't record anything and is just a monitor. I'm sure I turn mine off by holding down the power button for a few seconds. I will have to check now. cheers Doug

Hi Mike, great video as always. It's a long press on the power up button on the Ninja to switch it off. Hold it in for about 3 or 4 seconds and it turns off. The battery problem can be solved with a power bank and the power adaptor plate that comes with it. In fact I run the Ninja and my camera with it at the same time. The main reason I use it is it's much easier to keep things in focus when manually focusing with the larger screen. I have used 7" screens in the studio and they are even better but too big when out and about. Looking forward to next Saturdays video. All the best.

I also bought a monitor for the top of the camera but like yourself cannot really see any great advantage for it except one, allows you to put the camera really low to the ground without having to get down yourself but for me it's not the getting down part it's the getting back up at 70+ years old.

The Om-1 built in screen tilts to any angle so can be seen from above. So far I can still get up quickly. Must be the 4 Weetabix and a pint of milk every day since I was a child.

Another great video Mike. I know this spot well, spent time there earlier this year trying to get the kingfishers that nested in the wall.

Hi Mike great video as always, have you noticed that most camera makers other than Nikon don't sell add on Diopter adjuster glass any more, I use a Canon 40D/50D/7D and can't find any anywhere.
@MikeLaneFRPS2 ай бұрын
I had not noticed. Us it because the built in one has a greater adjustment range

Great video Mike I have been interested in the Atmos Ninga 5 to record Camera settings while doing video. But it really is another bit of kit to go wrong and only usable in good conditions.So thanks for sharing your experience with the Ninga (Not as nimble as a Ninga fighter). Great shots of the Wagtails certainly one of my favourites when the Dippers don't perform.👍

When I'm shooting bird I almost always use a minus .3 or minus .7 exposure compensation with whatever camera I'm using. I seem to get better color saturation this way unless there is some overriding lighting situation in the background.

Excellent video Mike. I did think about buying the Atmos Ninja for screen recording. It is good to be able to see the screen recordings when you showing a video for KZbin. I did see a video where someone used their mobile phone for doing that, but cannot remember where I saw it.

@@MikeLaneFRPS If anyone does suggest something, let me know. I was trying to record focus peaking on the back of the screen last week. It did it O.K, but a monitor on the hotshoe would have given a better result. I see that you are including more clips taken with your drone now. I see there is a Hover XPro now.

I used to use the xrecorder app on Android. Today i recommend the accsoon cineview nano or dji raveneye transmitter. Dji and Accsoon are very similar. Dji is lightweight (about 110 grams) and sends video to a smartphone in 1080p quality.Accsoon is even lighter(75g)and sends a video to not one but four smartphones/tablets at the same time. Used Dji costs about 100-120 euro, new accsoon 150 euro.I use DJI myself because it works with a gimbal. The dji app is simple and quick to use. I use a dji and a tablet (samsung galaxy tab s9 or s8 ultra) in the studio with a tilta nucleus ii or dji rs2 with a follow focus motor. The ninja v with a battery weighs 2.5 times more than my smartphone (samsung s22 ultra) and dji raveneye together and exactly the same as an 11-inch galaxy tab s9 tablet with dji. btw. I have a ninja v and i use it to shoot real estates videos. The ninja v gives you the option to record in prores raw format. This is a huge advantage in some cases: the ability to change white balance, iso in post-production and a much wider dynamic range (especially with om-1). Unfortunately, editing video recorded in prores raw takes a lot of time.

i love how you always very confident say we just wait for the bird to come and get to a better spot - then he does EXACTLY that. usually when i see a bird somewhere he is at a spot for about 1.69 seconds, fly away and never show up for the rest of the day again. doesnt matter what bird. they seem to hate my camera. i can sit there full camo mode and not move a muscle for hours. sure as daylight nothing will show up. 🤣

I'm a new sub. Your channel is fantastic. The last camera I owned was a Canon 5DIII. I then picked up the Astronomy (visual) habit and sold all my gear. Recently, I picked up an E-M1ii. Wow, what a great camera! I've bought a 60mm Macro lens, but now that winter is coming, I'd like to take up bird photography. What lens should I consider with a £600 budget?
@MikeLaneFRPS2 ай бұрын
Thanks. There are Olympus lenses of around 100-300 and 75-300mm for that price, especially used.
@johngunning21232 ай бұрын
If you used "spot metering" (Canon terminology) wouldn't that give you a better result for the bird without using exposure compensation?
@MikeLaneFRPS2 ай бұрын
No metering pattern gets it right all the time. Best to stick to one and learn when you need to compensate
