Me to, oh i had a mental orgasm but i'm a noob so i have everything to learn and i'm getting way to scattered in photoshop lol, also when i resize my brush there is a red dot, how can i get rid of that?
@varunsingh20524 жыл бұрын
@@slash6686 why would you want to get rid of that red dot?
@MothlingLXIX5 жыл бұрын
I work this same way, but I always got stuck when moving back into normal layers from the overlay and multiply layers. Everything always still felt too muddy. When you picked that grey part in the nose and moved it over into the red it was like a light bulb went off. I was just working on a painting and I went back into the muddy spots and just slid it over into the color it was around, and it looks 600x better. I can't believe my brain couldn't put that together. I kid you not this video just solved a problem I've been having with digital painting for like 3 years. You and this video are an actual blessing. Thank you so much, holy shit.

I just want to say this and the other greyscale to colour video helped a hell of a lot; not just the approach used, but watching the video gave me an idea of the mindset of getting from grey to colour as well as what hurdles to expect along the way and how one might try to tackle them. Took me from feeling completely lost to having some understanding of what to do after watching a number of other tutorials on the subject. Thanks for the great tutorial.

Was already heading in the right direction and just wanted to make sure that I was heading in that direction. Trying to fully control my values and the best way to improve is greyscale. Since Hue and Saturation also have value, it gets tricky to control during coloring.

But, since discovering you ive stopped beating myself up about it and ive learnt so much. I really appreciate this video, I'm going to give it a try. Dave, have you ever tried utilizing gradient maps in photoshop to get more control of how you get rid of the grays in your pencil work? I know you add saturation, but you might also be able to layer a gradient map in there and choose the colors you want for each value step, and even mask away where you don't want it to be. Kind of like Artgerm's technique for colour to greyscale. I've watched his youtube video on it as well and it reminded me of your technique while getting rid of the more tedious part.

mhhm! This is soo good! I always take far too long sometimes converting grayscale to colour and end up manually painting too much henceforth taking far longer than necessary. I never considered using the lighten layer to quickly get rid of the grey shadows to prevent muddy results early on. I'll certainly keep this in mind for future paintings! Thanks Dave for these awesome videos they're incredibly helpful and I love your work.

Great workflow. The lighten red layer over the b/w base at the start was a revelation. A great way to remove that "burnt" feeling of the digital black. Of course none of this would look so good if the initial b/w wouldn't have been properly done with the right values. Awesome work as usual!

Thank you! I've been struggling with my paintings looking muddy after coloring and a lot of times ended up just scrapping the artwork due to this issue. All the other tutorials on YT were just covering the basics of "use multiply layer" and "color dodge a bit"; which isn't so simple to get good results. The only good advice that helped a bit came from IIRC Trent Kaniuga who shown the basics of Gradient Maps. It wasn't a cure-all though, but with the reddish underpainting and your technique it may be just right! Will know after I'm done with commissions and can test it~
