Major epiphanies coming through for me today from watching your video, Jackie! My heart rate accelerated when you introduced the gelatos and stabilos...yes...I got scared 😱! In my mind, I thought "Oh No!! TEXTURE! Another thing to control...how will it interact with color and collage." But as you worked through each grid, I started thinking how much this process mirrors our daily lives. We all have a background canvas we apply our actions to and if we don't like them, we just change them until we do...adding, choosing, rearranging and discarding bits and pieces until we LIKE the way it looks overall. So Inspiring! LIFE, BRING ON THE GELATOS!!! Lol!!😂

when you show the close-ups at the end, they're all amazing. the ratio of detail and texture to larger areas of color really works. i could imagine almost every one of them as a large abstract painting on canvas. i think i might have made this exact comment on a previous grid journal video of yours... :)

Love the little ones as always & I would never ever use fluorescent red (or even red for that matter) which is one of the ways watching you always imparts new information (and courage) -- somehow certain colors have become like foods I don't like and therefore never eat -- I need to see demonstrated over and over what it might actually mean to *use* those colors and realize they can actually be pretty amazing -- loved the close-ups as well -- each of them is a world unto itself ❤🧡💛

I love this so much 😆❤️ Your description reminds me of how I used to feel about yellow ochre and quinacridone gold. I watched Jane Davies use quin. gold a million times and could’t figure out why she added it to her art which was otherwise brightly colored for the most part. The more I watched how she used it, the more it made sense to me… but not for art, of course. Until I tried it myself and played around with it and now it’s one of my favorite colors! Be careful, that fluorescent red might start growing on you…. 😆😆😆

I love you and your videos, the way you are and teach, you’re so authentic! I was wondering if you might do a video on large canvas? I’m working on 30” x40” and finding it really challenging after working on smaller scales. The large format is so much in my face even when I step back it gets overwhelming. Can you relate? Can you talk about it in a video? Thanks for sharing your experience. Stay Blessed.❤
@jackieschomburgart10 ай бұрын
Great question! Changing scale makes a huge difference - often much more than you’d think. I do relate. I’ll add this to my list of video ideas - thanks! For now, I’d ask if you’ve done any intermediate sizes leading up to the 30x40” canvas…? You might find it helpful to make some interim pieces and work up a bit more gradually. So, starting with a 12”x12” canvas, next a 16”x16”, then 20”x20” and so on (not necessarily squares, that’s just where my head is apparently at right now 😆). It may help you acclimate easier. Intellectually, it doesn’t seem like it would help, but practically it can often help smooth out a big change in size ❤️

I need to try some neons, and fluorescent but it's a bit scary
@jackieschomburgart10 ай бұрын
I have an idea that might make it less scary. What if you add the fluorescent color first and then spend the rest of your time finding ways to cover *almost* all of the neon color up? You’ll still get the punch of the neon, but with a bit of a mindset shift, all you’re doing after step one, is painting how you normally paint. Just an idea… ❤️

Hello Jackie, I would like to know, do you use gelatos to do professional art work or just when you do exercices ? Because a friend tell me gelatos are not lightfast... Thank you
@jackieschomburgart10 ай бұрын
I rarely use them, but when I remember that I have them, they are fun to play with. 😆 Not sure about lightfastness, but I would recommend sealing them and applying a UV varnish to minimize fading ❤️
@juliamarsh95367 ай бұрын
Yes well you might say its only paint (and) paper. Thats like telling a baker its only flour and water...🤔 😝
@jackieschomburgart7 ай бұрын
True. But at the end of the day, it really is just flour and water and eggs and sugar, isn’t it? If you mess up the cookies, you can always try again with another batch. 🤗 (yes, it’s oversimplifying, but the point is that if I made art that I liked once and then pushed too hard and “ruined” it… I can try again tomorrow with the same ingredients and can trust that if I made something I liked once, I’ll be able to do it again so all isn’t lost by “ruining” the first painting ☺️)

@jackieschomburgart2 ай бұрын
Hi! It can be for that, but I use it very loosely for inspiration - exploring color palettes or compositions that might be fun for a series of larger paintings. Separately, I also use it just to play. It's an easy, efficient way to spend an hour or 2 (or 6!) to make a complete mini-series 🤗
