I’m not a biologist, but I use this bomb method for barotrauma. That orange fish I doubt would make it. It’s eyes were popping out , there would be massive nerve and probably brain damage. On some of the species I keep to eat , you can see the vessels leaking blood from the spine to the flesh. So barotrauma bombs work , but also don’t work . Much depends on the depth , species and how quickly it Is reeled up. You did the right thing , it’s just a bummer that particular fish is dead. Love your work though !

Hey Jeff, they make this "air bladder needle" that you inject under the scale then into the fish's swim bladder that allows you to bleed off the trapped air. I've seen Aussie fisherman use the drop technique and they swear by it.

May I suggest that once you netted a fish that you lift the net vertically, with the handle pointing straight up. This is easier on the net hoop and helps prevent it from getting bent. Especially important with larger fish. Thanks for your great videos!

Hugs to a wonderful family 🤗 I know nothing about hunting but have often wondered about when your family goes on those long camping trips to the mountains. Is that open land or do you have to make arrangements with someone? I think of the time often when you and your younger daughter saw the bear and just waited. The look on her face to you “Dad?” was a priceless memory. You have a wonderful group of daughters and your wife is one of a kind 😄 thank you for your shows I so enjoy watching them. Shirl K - Texas

Crazy you kept getting the yellow eye rock fish!! Apparently they taste really good!! But like said, you can't keep them anymore. They can live up to like 115 years old but they don't start reproducing until they are about 10-20 years old which is why it's taking so long for them to come back from endangered. They say it could take 100 more years to come back to normal numbers. States like California might start compensating fisherman to do what you were doing in the video releasing the fish with weights back down to a depth so they can recompress and hopefully live.

I'm always excited when you come out with new videos, cause they're always entertaining, and often informative. This one did not disappoint, but then, they never do! That was interesting about the Yellow Eyes, and how you release them. Let us know if you hear from any biologists about the success rates on that release procedure. Thanks for sharing another adventure with us! God bless your wonderful family!

Epiphany - Yall were talking about a whole year's worth of food in the fish box, and it occurred to me, THATS exactly my thought, except I eat mostly beef. I raise cattle in North Texas, and between pressure-canned, dried, and frozen beef, i have pribably 3 year's worth saved up. The ephanie? Being able to narrow down a SUSTAINABLE food choice to just one food. Salmon rules the north, but in Texas, cattle is king!

Why not just attach 3 pulleys to the side of your boat. slide the rope through and pull up with the rope going either out the boat or in the bucket like you're doing. it'll feel really gliding.
