Police made four arrests at the funeral of Ponsonby Rd shooter Hone Kay-Selwyn, on Monday 13th May 2024, as Killer Beez, Hells Angels, Headhunters, black power and mongrel mob members gathered in South Auckland at the Manukau Memorial Garden.
Police had been monitoring movements and proceedings surrounding the funeral since last week, which involved observing numerous patched members moving through different parts of Auckland.
Police allege Kay-Selwyn opened fire on Auckland’s Ponsonby Rd on Sunday, 5th May 2024, killing 33-year-old Robert Horne.
After a nationwide manhunt, 31-year-old Kay-Selwyn was found dead at a rural property near Taupō, in circumstances police have since described as “not suspicious”.
At the funeral held at Otara and Memorial Gardens, a sizable convoy of motorbikes streamed in, capturing attention, as some members were seen engaging in public burnouts releasing white smoke and noise as a mark of respect for the deceased. Despite a conspicuous police presence, officers maintained a distance from the funeral proceedings, primarily stationed at the entrance. law enforcement maintained a significant presence at the cemetery grounds, with additional support from the Police Air Support Unit.

It's worked in Australia pretty well. NZ only has a ban on government places/buildings at the moment. The government is looking at implementing it in public places. So, to say it hasn't worked is a load of kaka. Stop playing victim, stop glorifying gangs and associating gang culture with the true culture of Maori.
