VINYL RECORD
André Gertler´s background and reputation cast another vote for Budapest as the "city of prodigies". He, too, was born and trained there, at the Franz Liszt Academy, studying the violin with Hubay and composition with Kodaly. At the age of thirteen he gave concerts all over Europe, Africa and America, and since finishing his studies at sixteen, has performed with all important orchestras and conductors of the world.
As the founder of the "Gertler Quartet" he performed over a thousand concers over a 20 year period. Gertler was a great friend and collaborator of Bela Bartok and the two gave many joint recitals in Hungary and elsewere in Europe. The honour of having introduced first performances of many Bartok woks to the large cities of Europe goes to him. For many years he has conduced a summer master class in Mozarteum in Salzburg, in addition to A. Gertler´s activities as visiting professor at Indiana University.
