Well, the thing about Mettaton is from anime, that is actually part true. Alphys showed him (or her) when he was a ghost anime. And he (or she) liked one of the characters really much, and Alphys probably said that she is going to be a royal scientist and she can make him a new body that looks like him. She made him a rectangle body first, and then named him Mettaton (because he was from metal). Then she showed him to Asgore and he thought that Alphys made a robot with soul. Asgore made her a royal scientist and then, she started to do Mettaton's body "from anime". But hey that's just a theory. P.S. Mettaton is my favourite characer frrom Undertale.
