I hope you live it as much as we did. We actually just left a few days ago and are now crossing Halong Bay but due to video scheduling you’ll be seeing our month there through about Day 47 of Daily Taste. Thanks for watching!

We are planning a trip to Vietnam in February. Do they do the lanterns on the boats on the river every night? I thought it was only during their festival and I am finding conflicting information online. It says it’s on February 11 and also on February 14. I just don’t wanna miss it.

I was confused about that too before we got here. The lanterns are every night and vendors offering them are beside the river near the bridge where people are getting on. They will walk up to you then take you to a table to pay then give you over to a boat driver. We also specifically went back on a lantern festival night thinking it would be different/more but it was the same. All the locals kept telling us that and it was true. All I can think of is that maybe the dates coincide with moon cycles so it’s darker?🤷🏼♀️. Any night is fine and midweek might be less crowded which is nice. You want enough people for lots of lights but not jam packed boats. Be sure it’s fully dark and the right crowd level (later usually increases number of people). You’re off season so should have a wonderful, not too crowded time! By the way though, if it rains a lot the river floods at the street level especially on the mainland side-depending how much you might have to wait a day or two for it to go down, and/or visit from the island side.

We will be in Hoi An in January. How would we find the place you had the lobster?????!!!!!

Look on Google maps for Hoi A Night Market. I believe it’s every night from 6 pm on. You’ll see it’s on a Main Street between the 2 rivers with Bi’s Dock at the other end. As you get closer to Bi’s Dock the street market thins out and there are 3 grilled lobster street stalls on the left. It’s the first one (they do have tables and chairs) (so 3rd furthest from the river by Bi’s dock). Look carefully at the video to see the name on the cart and what the lady looks like that owns it. Enjoy!! Great question! By the way just before the lobster place is the rolled ice cream stall we also went to.
