Malcolm, yours is only the second youtube channel I have ever subscribed to. Your efficient and well organized videos give all of the info needed without missing details or distractions. These are incredibly professional and I'm an immediate fan. First video I found was this older tri-tip but your style was honed even then and I'm really pleased to see you haven't abandoned it. Going through more of your videos now and getting a LOT MORE out of my smoker!! Will definitely be supporting with product purchases but wanted to say thank you, just like thousands of others who are grateful for your efforts!

Smoked a tri tip today then put her on the Webber for a good seer. Used a light coat of KH's AP and KH's Steak Rub. MMMMMM MMM.... I let it roll to 150 degrees for a nice, juicy medium. So good. Your rubs took it to the next level. Thanks Malcom!!

I've seen a lot of "External" people try to cook Tri Tip.. You sir and this is coming from Santa Barbara California. Are exceptional. I love how you have done the Tri Tip cooking. Believe me I have critiqued others that are from the southern California Area and gave them bad reviews. Thanks for cooking for us!

I’ve lived in SoCal for almost 20 years, and I’m big into grilling and smoking. But when I moved here and heard people talking about tri tip, I didn’t know what it was, and then I had a few bad experiences eating of tri tip overcooked in an oven - definitely no bueno. So I never grilled one until today. This video was helpful, and it turned out great. And I have unlimited local sources, so it’s definitely something I’ll add to the rotation from now on. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Great job on the Tri Tip, for a rub there is SusiQ from Santa Maria. Sea Salt garlic powder white and black pepper and dried parsley. TrimTip is cooked over Red Oak on an Asado or Parillia Grill. Hot and Fast. Instead of BBQ sauce, the use of Salsa is typical with sides of Piquito beans. 3 bean salad and Sweet Garlic Bread combo of Mexican, Portuguese, Danish and Italian Culture. Cutting it thin or thick is awesome. When sliced thin it can be placed in Mexican Flat unleavened bread. Awesome

LOL .. this video came at a perfect time for me as I'm considering a BGE but was concerned it was not a good setup for direct/indirect cooks of thick beef. I've cooked thousands of tri-tips over the years as it's my go to cut of beef in NorCal. (If you need any, let me know). I get Prime at Costco for about $7.99 lb. My preferred method is to sear first and THEN move to indirect on a Weber. I've tried the reverse sear in the past as your video shows and although it is quite effective, it "seems" like it dries out the roast a bit more then the other way. Might want to give that a try sometime and compare. Either way .......... delicious. Thanks for the video ..... pleased to know the BGE can handle thicker cuts of beef effectively with this technique.

Hey Malcom... You can find tri-tip at southern meats in Millington Tn. They had a lot of requests for it from naval personnel who were transferred from California. They package it themselves then freeze it but it's always in stock.

I just spent a couple of weeks in Southern California, and so I went searching for tri-tip, which I've LOVED in Northern Cal. The place I found in Burbank claimed to cook "Texas-style BBQ," but it was so disappointing. I could hardly tell the difference between their tri-tip and their brisket; both were over-cooked and under-spiced. Your recipe looks delicious! I'll try it the next time I track down a tri-tip here in Georgia.

What is your method for adding a chunk of Pecan Wood? I'm new to my Kamado. Do you soak the wood? Place it anywhere special? How long will it smoke? I was thinking maybe adding extra wood would just flare it up and raise my temp above the 250 mark. If anyone can chime in, please advise.
