Thank God Jim was there to talk a little about Magnum and the Midnights, which led to his biggest title win in Mid South. Do your homework, Connie. 84 Mid South was awesome.

There's some of his Memphis matches on KZbin. Memphis was pretty solid in the early 80's but he made everyone else in the territory look like an amateur. Including Lawler.

It was perfect having Nikita win the best of 7 for the US title. Freed up Magnum to beat Flair at Starrcade and set up Nikita to challenge Magnum for the NWA title in '87 based on the fact that he already beat him for the US title and left doubt whether TA could beat him. Sucks we were robbed of that even though '87 was still phenomenal. Good ole days

I remember seeing Flair & Magnum going to a one-hour draw at the Philadelphia Civic Center in June of 85. It was the first time that the NWA had sold out the civic center (approximately 10,000 fans) since they starting running house shows there in February of 1985. That first NWA house show (Feb 5, 1985) featured a main event of Flair vs. Steamboat, but the card only drew about 500 people due to a snowstorm and the NWA being the new kid on the block in WWF territory. Flair & Steamboat still put on a great match. Thankfully, JCP stuck with Philly and continued to promote matches there each month to progressively increasing crowds until selling out in June of 85 with the Flair / Magnum TA main event. Many sellouts in Philly would follow during the glory days of Jim Crockett Promotions in the 80's. Great time to be a wrestling fan. Respect to Magnum TA for never giving up and continuing to live life to the fullest despite his tragic accident at such a young age. Inspirational to say the least.

This is one of my favorite stories in the business. Magnum is a great guy, has a great family. As bad as all that was when had his wreck. He has lived his life and still been successful. I can what they saw in him,y gosh he was a stud he had that look he was only going to get bigger. The WCW's Hogan...

My first live show 8/16/86 Philadelphia which was advertised with Best of 7 Final between Magnum-Nikita. Match was placed as semi-main event next to Midnight Express Rock n Roll Express 2/3 falls match. The match between Magnum-Nikita is refereed by Bob Geigel. Match ends in less than 10 minutes or so in a double count out, AND WOW The ENTIRE ARENA ERUPTED in BOOS! We felt robbed of an ending of the series.

i never saw Magnum wrestle live. i was four when he retired. my uncle FORCED me to watch WCW and in particular Flair and Magnum when I was a WWF mark in the mid 90s. Magnum was so refreshing. He looked good but natural, he could brawl but had plenty of rasslin' ability. and best of all he was really freakin believable every time i hear "he's 27 and his career is over" it still stings.

Nikita said to Magnum in the contract signing involving Marion Allen "you bring your stinkin mother" Magnum jumps across table at Nikita. Legend has it, Magnum never told (smartened) his mother about the attack.

Magnum would have been a top star in pro wrestling for a long time, if the accident didn't happen bringing it to a tragic end. He would have been the NWA/WCW World Champion multiple times over, and I always thought by the late 90s, Attitude Era WWF, Magnum as a heel vs Stone Cold would print money! Damn...what could have been!

Magnum TA and Sting are very loyal to their promotion and I feel Magnum would have not sign with WWE,if he did not get into the accident. He would have stayed in WCW.....
@joninwm2 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed hearing this. I saw Magnum TA many times in Mid-South. His feud with Mr. Wrestling 2 was gold, but was sad with most because 2 was so over in Mid-South. Mr. Wrestling 2 was only overshadowed in Mid-South by JYD. That era of wrestling was almost magical and entertaining. I can't watch Wrestling anymore its just dull and boring to watch.

If Magnum TA did not get hurt in the accident,I think there would not be NWO.I also feel like,he would not sign with Vince and show loyalty with WCW....I don’t Magnum TA would have sign for more money with WWE.....I disagree with JR views of Magnum TA of joining WWE.Magnum TA has a similar personality like Sting.....

I love the story of front row section D, Harley Race throwing him like a frisbee over the top rope after that match was over. Read the sign Harley pointed at to Magnum. I'll not repeat what the sign said. I felt the same way. Belly to Belly record fastest match. bah! They were pushing to then moon a guy that was very good looking but not a good wrestler. South was better but lacked that look!
