A hint from someone with a few hours of this game: take farming and then brewing for research first because you need farming for food and not having wine or ale for too long gives a big mood debuff, so solve that need asap. Also start with the storage cellar as soon as possible. The best way to build one I know of at the moment is to leave one beam in the middle of a 5x5 room (Because squares and structural integrity.) with more rooms attached to it, then you need floors obviously and a solid dirt or stone ceiling. You will get weapons, armor and clothing from enemies at the start, so getting food and drink needs solved frees up lots of labour, too.

Game would be pretty unplayable if you need to get that far in the research tree to be able to produce a basic necessity for the game.

The books don’t get used necessarily, but stocked on the bookshelves after use, thus the allocated having 110, but only 25 available, for an entire stock of 135, this is also why the game said if you lost books to fire or theft, the knowledge would not be available till someone rewrote the books

They currently will not be stored on bookshelves. I suggest storing them underground where they are less likely to be destroyed. This is from personal experience.

I think (and I may be mistaken) you might have to dig deeper to make a stockpile for food so it’s cooler and that way it won’t rot, because you were getting a lot of rotted food alerts. Or maybe it was just because nobody hauls as a priority so everything was still in the house? Or something. It’s hard to tell. But I don’t think the food is supposed to rot that fast or else winter would be impossible, since I think nothing grows outside at that point. Anyway, I am really, really loving this game. It’s got everything I love in Rimworld and is just an all around entertaining game. The place is looking amazing, too. So much room to grow food with that new area built. I love it, and I can’t wait to hopefully see more of this game. 😃

The trick is to have a solid dirt or stone ceiling above the storage, not something he built, because only the natural ground isolates perfectly. So digging down twice so there's one layer of dirt overhead is enough - just make sure you keep structural integrity otherwise a part of the ceiling will cave in and then the whole underground storage is ruined.

You need to dig down two tiles to build a cellar.

This is key that a lot of people don't mention: seal off your cellar with a door, don't have stairs leading directly into it. I believe this helps a lot. Natural cavern walls are the best insulator, but clay walls will do in a pinch if you screw up and have a cave-in or something. And it must be floored or the food will rot anyway due to floor type.

I have to say it was hard to watch having an alert popping out in front of you saying "Construction fail" and then asking yourself why did happen. Let's not talk about the amount of things you are not paying attention into. It's kinda frustrating since you were being one of the few KZbinrs that was making a good gameplay. You're not paying attention to many things, is one thing if you want to make a funny or clown gameplay like many others do, but I was seeing that you were taking it chill and somewhat serious, but seeing that you don't check carefully the alerts nor take your time to read carefully each of your settlers stats, is kinda irritating. Hope later chaps you fix those mistakes since is kinda nice seeing your gameplay, those are only my complaints as a viewer. I hope you have a nice day :)
