@reverendmorgano96592 жыл бұрын
@@MrBrimbles 😂 Well in many legends the wolf and raven are one and the same, like two halves of the same coin. One is the hunter, warrior, and guardian and the other is the spy, sage, and mentor while both act as scouts and represent the mystical and mysterious aspect of nature and the wild. Wolf and raven deities are most often kings or queens of their respective pantheons or at the very least extremely high ranked and often depicted as archers. Examples are the Cherokee Kanate, the Egyptian Upuaut, the Norse Odin, the Greek Zeus, Artemis, and Apollo just to name a few.

Great take. I like that Bokrug and his frog worshippers are actually the more on the nose aliens, not just mutated/cursed/deformed humans like most others. A complete contrast to the deep one, who were mostly human, and you have to theorize their brutality to increase their numbers. But for the forg people Lovecraft brings up their city in other stories (Ibb) but he's very on the nose of who they were in the "Doom of Sarnath". Frog people who came from the moon (space), set up a peaceful city made of grey stone, and worshipped Bokrug. But he never makes it mysterious, he tells you exactly what, and who they were. I do think they're sort of the perfect catalyst for dealing with water/ocean adventures, and cultures like Cuthulu, and the deep one's.

funny how you bring up Kong while mentioning Hanuman. Considering the nature of Skull Island and Kong's psuedo-science fiction/Fantasy themes, I think it would fit right in with the Hyborian Age. Their both linked to that pulpy action/adventure mythos of the early 20th century and would be a match made in heaven. Most giant monsters would, tbh. Canon or otherwise, a Kaiju/Toho crossover with Conan would be awesome!

Awesome videos, I love the original Howard stories I discovered in highschool and got deeply into Lovecraft without knowing they were related. I'm glad someone is making quality video essays examining a world that the movies don't do justice in my opinion, I really wish we could get a more respectful adaptation of the "greatest hits" with a framing device story. I do think the 'noble savage' is more like "We live in small civilization, not overpowering the wilderness but living within it" post colonial romanticism of "a less complicated life" similar to how Lovecraft longed for the older more eloquent writing style of the 1700/1800's and Howard fantasized about a more savage untamed world filled with mysteries just outside of civilizations, (in many ways) insufficient protection.

It's always funny/interesting to see how Hindu and to some extent Eastern gods are treated in western media. Hanuman is one of the most benevolent gods (Sun Wu Kong is based off him), much closer to Mitra in Conan lore, yet he is some sort of evil eldritch God here. Kinda like naming a God Jesus and he is God of lust and wrath. A lot of it has to do with ignorance and xenophobia of the early authors and world builders. An interesting take none the less.

I have rewatched both of the Gods of Conan Videos, because I enjoy them. But also I am trying to figure out which God if I dropped into the world of Conan would follow. Mitra feels to easy, Crom and Ymir don't really grant much to their followers. I am not down for Set, but outside of Mitra I can honestly see Jhil as an option I would consider..... long and hard...... from a safe distance. But consider. She seems more like a Goddess that would grant me knowledge especially with the whole rolling dice to see fate. If there is a God of magic and knowledge that won't eat my face I'd probably head in that direction. Great video as always.
