You know it's pretty interesting seeing a princess go through PTSD as she lives with the king/prince. It does provide a bit of drama since she does want to be with him but somethings, even little things, could trigger her horrific ordeal with her father. Glad she got a happy end, she deserves it.

That being said, he was most likely influenced surrounded by the behavior of common folks instead.

@mississippimillionaire3790 ...No? They weren't depraved? They were recording the folk and fairy tales of their times, which were usually cautionary tales told by women to their children. The stories were bleak because they reflected a bleak world. For example, this story has a father going insane and seeking to marry his daughter because people _do_ go insane and some parents _do_ abuse their children. But the protagonists find happy endings because they are good have faith that things will work out--in fact, the Grimm Brothers sometimes changed the stories' endings to be _happier._ Judging the Brothers Grimm to be bad people just because some characters (especially villainous characters) do bad things is a shallow, anti-intellectual take on stories as a whole.
