I'm surprised nobody offered to buy Mary a headstone over the years . Any idea as to why she was put in an unmarked grave ? Finance issues or maybe her family wanted it that way?

I love this story, and I am glad you are getting down to the bottom of this story. It has been told over and over again for decades. I first learned of it when I was a little girl when my dad was in the Navy stationed at NAS Great Lakes. I wanted to let you know that I noticed that she was born in 1921 and died in 1929, which would make her 8 years old when she died. Maybe she wasn't there celebrating any high school prom, but something we Catholics do, she was celebrating her First Communion. It is such a sad thing that she died so young.

I also noticed the dates and realized the age is off, then I went back, read the names of the other family members from the article compared to the stone and none of them match up. Wondering if maybe this isn’t the same Anna since the only thing matching is the name.

My grandfather is buried there. My grandmother used to take me here to clean up his grave and plant flowers. Never had any experiences, but my grandma was the most pragmatic person I ever knew. She said that cemetery was the scariest place she’s ever been to and to not go alone ever. She said it would randomly get so quiet you could here a pin drop. And when that happens to leave immediately.

I grew up in Chicago before I moved to L.A. and there's no mentioning Resurrection Mary without also mentioning Chicago ghost hunter and historian, Richard Crowe, who used to do tours of famous paranormal and ghostly sights around Chicagoland. He was obsessed with Mary, so much so that when he died, he opted to be buried there at Resurrection Cemetery. Chicago is a very haunted city. We also have several other famous ghosts and haunted locations, such as Julia Buccola Petta, who is buried at Mt Carmel Cemetery. She died during child birth in 1921 and, years later, when her body was exhumed, her body had not deteriorated one bit. There's a photo of her in life and a photo of her body taken after the exhumation on her tomb that shows her un-corrupted body. People report smelling roses when visiting her gravesite, but no roses are present. There's also Bachelor's Grove Cemetery, which I've been to, where people report seeing glowing orbs moving thru the forest that surrounds the cemetery. Mobsters used to dispose of bodies in the pond on the cemetery grounds. It's a very spooky place, but there aren't many tombstones left, because they've been vandalized over the years. Great video, guys! Thanks for sharing.

Way to pay homage to very well known yet mysterious Chicago urban legend. Not many people know of the Chets Melody Lounge traditions and "Anna". As a Chicagoan who grew up just 3 miles out from the this cemetery qualifies me to deem this the best iteration I've seen of this story. Thank you for your contribution to the legend of the Vanishing Hitchhiker. Also it's pronounced NEEVA and it is indeed where Anna Norkus (the real Resurrection Mary) grew up. I myself grew up 3 blocks over and once spoke with a relative of hers who still lived in that house up until she passed away years ago.

@donnalauritzen
@donnalauritzen 3 ай бұрын
Not really a coincidence. I'm from Chicago, and seeing deer in those cemeteries is common, especially in the fall, winter, and early spring, when it gets dark earlier. The deer will come out in the summer, too, but usually they "hide" until the sun is about to go down. If you leave fresh flowers on a grave, the deer will usually eat them and leave you the stems. They LOVE roses!

Just over an hour north of Sydney Australia, there's a hitch-hiking ghost known as Jenny Dixon. After a party a teenage girl is walking home and accepts a ride from a group of young men. The night comes to a tragic end. Jenny Dixon usually appears on rainy nights, will insist on sitting in the back seat and disappears once the vehicle passes Noraville Cemetery. The stretch of road is known as Wilfred Barrett Drive.

Dear Michael & Jessica, When the two of you were at Resurrection Cemetery at the start of the video there was a very large building in the background. Which you showcased a bit at the end. It's huge mausoleum with lots of people buried in there. That mausoleum holds the World's Record for having the largest stained glass window at 22,000 square feet. Yep...largest stained glass window on planet earth. As a result it is a very, very profound experience to all of your visual sense when you walk all three floors on a sunny day. It's the most striking stained glass effect I have ever had the privilege to witness. If you guys ever return there, please consider visiting that structure on a sunny day. It's beyond amazing when you see the detail of the artwork within the glass that tells bible stories AND... if you look for it carefully you'll find an occasional "easter egg" item put into the glass that are clearly not part of the stories... The place is beyond words, but it's best appreciated on a sunny afternoon only. Give yourselves at least a couple of hours to walk around to take it all in.

If you went into the Irish legend right across from where the willow brook you used to be they would have some insight for you as well! Also something to add, a local cop said someone who did ghost tours in the 1990s supposedly dressed up as resurrection Mary and there was quite a few people who saw the person dressed up from the road and really thought it was her! Cops were called, they let him off but the same cop saw him in the jail the following Halloween dressed as her again!

I lived in Chicago Illinois my whole life and I heard about her story all my life especially on Halloween. She’s a loss soul looking for a Good life. She didn’t want to die to fast.

Love the information on Resurrection Mary. So much more then I've ever heard. Can't believe you were here in the area. Would have liked to have met you both. I guess if you told ppl where your going you'd be bombarded with followers. It is a beautiful cemetery most of my family is buried there. My dad is just a little ways down to the right when driving in by the entrance gate. I used to go on cemetery walks unable to now health issues. Always interesting & intriguing. Thanks for taking me a long, great video. Be safe to you both in your travels.

In the 80s, in our teens, my friends and i did a lot of joy riding(gas was so cheap!), hoping to find her. We never did, but I always felt a lot of unrested souls were in the area. Great vid.

Marvelous research and presentation, both of you, well done! I can confirm with the charming Polish-American barowner about knowledge of the legend becoming nationally known in the seventies, when I was a little kid, living here in the Midwest. You see with some legends that they are very often composite stories of unrequited lives, either taken by some kind of iniquity and/or injustice, or simply terrible fate. There is a symbolism of lives that never got to be fully lived, cut short, in a lot of ghost folklore almost anywhere in the world, not just the Midwest, New England, Canada, or the UK. There are a lot of universal themes in all of them and, of course, it centers around death.

What's interesting is the articles say she is 12. However, the dates on her stone say 1921-1929. That makes her only 8 years old.

I noticed on the headstone she had a brother (John I think) whose dates were 1918 - 1929 so he would have been 11. Maybe they people got his age mixed up ad Anna's age

Love these Grimm ghost stories! Impeccable research and deducing; the fey Jessica, a nature spirit among the autumn leaves; and a moving, century-old ghost story from Chi-town. Captivating! And your deductions make perfect sense, Michael! There is a grave marker conundrum at 20:49 and 20:54: two Norkus children died in 1929, Charles (age 12) and Anna (age 8). Surely there must be a mistake? The photo of Anna in the clipping you show at 15:44 does not look like an 8 year old; was another Norkus child also a casualty in that accident? 🤔 Interesting: two Norkus names in that article (August, 42--the father? and Sophie, 16--a sister?) are not listed on that marker. There must be another marker for these Norkus names--you may have found a branch of that family's tree. 25:28 The house is new, but that door? It certainly looks aged... 🤔🤔

I have a good friend that's from the south side area of Chicago. I went to visit him one year. We drove to Resurrection Cemetery and parked along side the road. It got real cold yet it was August; he told me about Resurrection Mary. He was also telling me about the finger prints in the bars of the Cemetery gates. I saw a car stop and started to proceed up the street. I watched it slam on the brakes suddenly. My friend told me Resurrection Mary was in that car.

That’s my neck of the woods. In 2004 my friends and I had a few drinks at Chet’s Melody Lounge. They are always willing to talk about Mary. My mom also used to belong to a dance group that met at the Willowbrook Ball Room and later after it burned down at the Glendora House. When I saw this video I was excited…gotta check out archer ave and that triangle of roads and the cemeteries around there there is a lot of paranormal out there.
