I’m guessing he may have asked the owner that if he could take it as a souvenir, after finding it. My assumption, knowing these two, that Michael did ask for approval, but i’m only guessing, since it was never brought up in the posting. I’m sure the owner will watch this posting and will resolve the matter, if it is an issue, since the evidence is in plain site. Michael could have easily put the object in his pocket and not said anything, but he didn’t.

As a historian, the fact you are documenting this for the future is so awesome. So much history is lost because people have no respect for it. "Ah, it's an old building, let's tear it down and build something new" is a normal for every city. Any time something can be preserved, even if it's kept private like the Spider Pool, it's amazing magic. I love your channel because you hit both my loves, the macabre and history. :)

I remember in the 80’s seeing a photo of 45 Grave posing at the Spider Pool. Back then it was still slightly visible from below if you took a certain main road below. We may or may not have figured out how to get there but it was somewhat less developed then… Great piece of Hollywood history, so glad you have got access to it!

YES! The GLC did it! You've now been to the two most coveted places in Southern California where (Outdoor) nude photography flourished from the late 1940s through the 1950s! (The other location being Corriganville) Some of the very first Playboy models posed at the Spider Pool and many of the photos taken there were by THE Harold Lloyd (He also photographed Tura Satana there) There was also quite a bit of (Existing) filmed-footage there for Loops and Penny Arcade-viewing too. (At 10:57) the model in the center is Thelma Montgomery who appeared in the 1954 film, GIRL GANG (Which is easy to find here on KZbin) The film's producer was George Weiss--Who also produced GLEN OR GLENDA! So there! An Ed Wood connection at The World Famous Spider Pool! Thanks for this fantastic video, Michael. And please be sure to return there with Jessica!!

I just found a vintage film with a woman named fancy Nancy. It shows the majority of the pool in all its glory. It also shows the spider wall with water running down it. The drain you showed in the video had a rectangle shaped basin that collected the water in it. She is nude if you happen to look for the video just fyi, but you do get to see a lot of the area for sure. I can try to share the page on here for people that want to see it. Hi!! I really love this! The Spider Pool mural has a magical shrine feel about it. Quite unique and rather special 🕷🕸 .....I believe there must be specific, 20th centuary archaeological excavator services that could professionally clear the site back to it's originality and expose what has been hidden over the years. Also, there must be other professional services whom could advise on how to preserve the site for perpetuity. I guess the spider and the web surface could be cleaned back to reveal it's original white surface? Many thanks for (lawfully) bringing us to this beautiful magical hidden gem! Oh, imagine visiting here at dusk or night time, with candles lit up against the spider mural :) H.H!

Awesome ! I've read up a lot on the Spider Pool and was stoked to see you went there and put this new video up ! It just always amazes me of these items that are lost to time and the elements. It's almost hard to believe that all those people were there that those pictures show. One thing that came to mind is how deep that pool was right in front of the spider and I wonder if that any remnants of the pool remain under the dirt ? In other words was the pool just filled in with dirt and so parts of it are actually intact under the dirt ? BTW when you posed at the spider pool I LOLed. You were in heaven ! It's a shame a fire destroyed most of the property, fires often take a part of history we wish we could still see till this day. But this mural still has something special to it, decay also has a form of beauty. Amazing video, loved it.

I have been trying to dive deep into his crazy house and have only been able to find pictures of the outside of what it looked like, that is, if they are real. But can’t find much of the interior. Makes me wonder if it did have a similar look to Winchester Mystery House. Wish we could have seen it! But still! And the fact you got to take a piece of the tile of the pool! You have literal piece of mystery history! To add to your personal collection! You’ll have to bring Jessica back with you for a photo shoot! Maybe for a Valentine’s Day surprise?! I’m sure she was yelling at you to watch your step many many times haha 💚👻🦇

As to the question on why it's still standing all these years is probably the fact is the mural itself is incorporated on a big retaining wall - in which would be a pain itself to raze.

When I lived in Hollywood I used to go exploring on foot. Cinema Archaeology. Lots of fun. The old pool remains when intact would have been a great location for a no budget movie. Creature-a-Go-Go!
