I remember seeing Army of Darkness on the Sci-fi Channel as a kid. Years later, I had a hard time believing that such a hokey horror comedy was actually the sequel to Evil Dead when a friend of mine showed me the first Evil Dead film. After seeing Evil Dead 2, I saw how Sam Raimi was slowly making the series more comedic. The Evil Dead/Army of Darkness films are classic. Makes me super excited to know HBO Max is working on an actual sequel. Too bad Ash vs the Evil Dead never got the conclusion it deserved.

I think the cancellation of Ash vs Evil Dead was it for him wanting to play the character. I heard on Dead Meat’s review of Black Friday that they wanted to make it an Evil Dead film and he basically refused to let it be.

"Klaatu barada nikto" is a phrase that originated in the 1951 science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still. The humanoid alien protagonist of the film, (Klaatu), instructs Helen Benson that if anything happened to him, she must say the phrase to the robot Gort. In response, Gort does not do anything hostile, instead retrieving Klaatu's corpse and resurrecting him. This phrase has become one of the most famous in science fiction.

Spent part of my childhood in Palmdale, when it was a small town. We used to go to Vasquez Rocks all the time - just for fun. It's amazing how many old B&W Westerns (movies and TV series) were made at that location. Thank you showing it in this video. From the angles you were filming, it doesn't look like much has changed actually. I haven't seen the movie or franchise you were discussing. I'll need to check it out. Thanks again - great work!

That hill with the Hollywood sign blew my mind because although I've been to LA and surrounding area a couple times, I NEVER would have thought that desert area was so close. I thought the East LA sprawl would have been still sprawling out right where those caves were. I can tell the movie scenes were filmed with a MUCH longer lens than this video, but still... I would have sworn that that distance, and that southeast direction from the sign, would still have been asphalt and buildings. Well, LA certainly has a lot of dead-flat surface roads and then right in the middle there'll be hills just popping right up out of all that flat space. Kinda' cool to fly into, for a guy from the mid-Atlantic region. We just don't HAVE little mountains popping up in the middle of our gently rolling suburban Maryland landscapes.

I love Army of Darkness and thanks for showing the locations for it. It's one of the funniest and most quotable movies ever. "Well, hello, Mr. Fancy Pants. Right now you ain't leadin' but two things: jack and s***, and Jack left town". The last time I went to Vasquez Rocks was two years ago. My cousin and I were trying to find where Kirk fought the Gorn in "Star Trek", but with the way the bushes have grown, I couldn't find it. There's was also a shot in "The Incredible Hulk" TV show, both where David Banner changes and then the Hulk changes back, but I couldn't find that. It's amazing how many productions were shot there. I need to go back and see the Dracula Rock. Another movie shot in that area was Steven Spielberg's "Duel". That would be an awesome Grimm Life video to make.

Awesome! I heard they could hear the roar of lions while filming this. Anton LaVey was forced to give up his lion Togar, who went to live at Tippi Hedren's animal sanctuary in 68? or 69? They renamed him Neal and can be seen lounging around with a young Melanie Griffith in photo layouts. The animal preserve is near these locations. Evil Dead trilogy, the series, the people and the behind the scenes, books like If Chins could Kill, the whole package! One of my favorites of all time.
