Thank you, Cap and crew, for making such a valuable contribution to the furthering of aviational science. As a viewington wooington, it makes me feel especially valued. BTW, why did no-one try the F104? Also, props to whichever pilot tried the mozzie. Those things look so damn hard to take off at the best of times, never mind on fire and missing most of one wing. That took some cojones. Or possibly chutzpah. One of those things.

Another good video cap, thanks. My kidney cancer operation went great, and I'm home same day. Robotic surgery is amazing. A bit sore, but sme Tylonol and I'm good. Keep the videos coming. 11:02 Grump flying the Grumman F-14 was smart! Too much lift on the left wing means a spin, and him pulling it back would have helped.
@HAL_900119 сағат бұрын
If I remember right, you and RC had to takeoff and land flaps up. That may explain why to few planes (even the Eagle) struggled to take off.

Great TV, i love these kinds of vids. How about, mark out a race track around some mountains or a city, set a ceiling, set tight bends and long straights and have a start line on the runway, first to land back is the winner, not just the fastest accelerating or top speed but also 'cornering', braking and deceleration.

“You lost your right wing”
@RaymondGrayson-t1x10 сағат бұрын
It's because the F-15 has a greater than 1 thrust to weight ratio, which is essentially a rocket. It "technically" doesn't need wings to fly.
@XTXImperator18 сағат бұрын
Great and amusing video cap! It is interesting to see how the MiG-29 behaved totally different than the SU-27 even though their basic bodyplan is very similar.

Fun question, does the direction of the turbine(es) spin make a difference as to which wing missing is more survivable?
@panachevitz37 минут бұрын
so this challenge got me thinking: can you independently manage the throttles of the twin engine planes? What I'm thinking is that you would need to goose the right engine higher to compensate for the loss of lift and try to counteract the tenedency to spiral in. This might be more applicable to the wide body aircraft that have a large space between engines versus the narrow body twin engine designs, and obviously the single engine aircraft can't do that at all. Also, can you set trim levels on the remaining wing to try to compensate?
@haytorrock33127 сағат бұрын
So in your presentation to the Royal Areronautical Society, you can say that your conclusion is its probably better to NOT shoot your wing off before takeoff. And thats SCIENCE, ladies and gentlemen.

Cap, I love what you all do great team. I have recommended Niko's from the Ted Coningsby aviation site they are a family friendly aviation site based near you( very near you lol), that film everything that fly's and try to interest others but do a lot for air charity's as well . But it's hard for them to explain cabin layouts and weapons uses in the open YT feed live + no discussion on possible op,s . But between the historical fights you do in all age planes would be an excellent tie in as you can explain tactics, weapon's etc but they might not only be able to help sell your mertch and visa versa . But beside that both site's are a match made in heaven and they do discord as well for the more open discussion's all ages and lot's of ex-world services . As I said to Niko's rabid airpower fan and owner, commentary and cameraman to try and get in touch with you as you both live in the same area . I also think you should try reaching out to him too. I think not only to add both sites but you all seem to have a lot in common and both educate us as well as adding humour. Regads. Reapers . Iain

Also, the reason that the F-15 was able to deal with loosing a wing is that it had already taken off. It had the elevation needed in order to adjust to the controls. So, trying to take off that way was going to be basically impossible to begin with. The attempt to take off would INSTANTLY counter the elevation needed to adjust the craft's ability to flight controls. In short, going up to get off the runway just kills chance of counter the roll/yaw needed.

It would be a cool video if. We all know the numbers on paper for specs on everyone's tech is always lower than released to the public now they let is how much in percentage stronger are they really like for example sm2 has a range of 100 miles on paper what if it's actually range was let's say 33% more powerful so instead of 100 miles it's 133 miles but apply that to everything if it's possible but it would be cool to make a guess at the percentage and try em out
