I always would do pistol squats without a hamstring dominant exercise in the past, and I've made a big effort this past year to ensure that I have a good balance between the two muscle groups. Wish I thought to do leg curls with bands in the past.

One way to increase intensity for my bodyweight leg exercises is to slightly pause at the bottom to make sure i push up w just my leg. It helps me avoid using momentum to get out of the bottom. Also trying to "touch glutes to heels" as you say.

Hi Matt, just reading and working out to GSC but I’m having problems attempting shrimp squats. Any pointers or just concentrate on a lower level? Thanks for the great videos :-)
@RedDeltaProject4 жыл бұрын
Yea, move to a lower level and see if you can produce more tension and stability in the muscles. Essentially you want to squeeze as much benefit out of each level as possible, or you can take a mini step and try doing a level between the two. So maybe two handed supported hover lunge which is a little easier than the shrimp squat

I hold you in higher regard than him as he's often way off, are they all about hamstring strength? Muchos ass-to-grass......

They do work the hamstrings but more from a supportive role they really are more about quad strength since they are pretty much a BW leg extension

Hi Matt, I was wondering what's your take on Nordic curls?
@RedDeltaProject5 жыл бұрын
I haven't really practiced them before as I much prefer the one's here. They seem easier to get into and work the whole posterior chain very well. NCs seem to be very intense and most people just do them as negatives, not a bad thing but I wonder if they are worth doing compared to these. I should put them in my program and see
@viniciusrodrigues12695 жыл бұрын
@@RedDeltaProject Thx, I have seen articles about preventing hams injuries with NC. The big drawback to me is the set up to anchor the feet, I'm still working on it. Any ideas would be welcome.

@RedDeltaProject5 жыл бұрын
I like them a lot, but one of the biggest mistakes with them is putting the rear leg too high which can limit your ROM. best to keep your rear foot on something about 6-9 inches high not something that's as high as a weight bench.

Matt when you were making your way out of pain, did you need to foam roll at all? Tom Myers talks about "ungluing tissue." In your opinion, is this needed or did you go right into calisthenics?
@WaltLQ5 жыл бұрын
I actually just watched your video on why you don't warm up and it brought about some thought. Yes the muscles are just as tense later on when you roll them out or stretch them out and what about "gluing?" I guess the muscles gluing side by side to one another, maybe this is what Tom Myers is referring to. What's your thoughts?
@RedDeltaProject5 жыл бұрын
I used to do a lot of foam rolling back when my lower back and hip was giving me constant pain. It did what I expected, in giving me some temporary relief but it wasn't a cure. Improving tension control and a big ROM in training made a much bigger difference. haven't heard about the notion of muscles glueing together, but I still feel like mobility and tension control can do a lot to help. I should look into it more.
@WaltLQ5 жыл бұрын
@@RedDeltaProject Matt I think you'd appreciate this it's Tom Myers giving a presentation at Google, because the muscle facia is unitary it supports what your saying about keeping tension throughout the body, anyways check this out! 👍...kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIDdpHd_qbxqeNU

There's a stabilizer in the hip that's not quite working as it should. It's either: - Your hip abductors are not on enough or - Your inner thight hamstring is not engaged enough Both can be problematic at the bottom of the squat in many cases.

Maybe name the little fella Numan. As in New Man. Numan the Human. Or Newman. Or Hugh Mann. Here’s another: Danny Delta. Or Donny Delta. Or Dimmy - he can model what NOT to do, he’s sooo dim. He’s not Red, though. He needs to be Red. Since he’s blue, maybe he should do things backwards. Of course, that could bring unwanted political comparisons. Hmmm. Gotta’ stay away from politics, right? Of course a Blue Delta man could have other meanings. Ah-ha! That’s it - just call him “Blue.” Aaannyyy-who, great video. I love variety in leg work because I hate working my damn legs; they take up about half my body length. The knees are arthritic as hell, too. Both meniscii are torn right now. Holding off on surgery, though - already had two meniscus surgeries, one of which resulted in a loss of my greater saphenous vein due to a clot. Long story about legs with a short point: LIKE MATT SAYS, FORM IS VERY IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY WHEN KNEES ARE INVOLVED. Sometimes knees act like delicate little flowers! AND avoid surgery to repair meniscal tears if you can - most are unnecessary! In fact, avoid surgery in general; if there’s a less invasive treatment, why not go with that first? Second opinions and a little personal research are always good when surgery has been recommended. And yeah, I don’t have a lot on my plate today, so I’m a bit of a chatter box. Pardon. ✌🏻✊🏻🙏
