I think personally that the existence of blood pact is degrading their love. I always believed that Dumbledore was unable to defeat Grindelwald because he loved him and the emotion was strong enough to stop him from doing what was needed. The same way it stopped Grindelwald from killing Dumbledore who was probably the only real threat for him. It was relatable and human for me.
