EXCELLENT VIDEO 🚜🌽👍☺️ Thanks for sharing your informative video of mixing feed for beef cattle with the complete step-by-step process from useful angles to show the interconnections of the equipment and transfer of work-in-progress. At my grandfather's cattle ranch in the USA, he typically grew a field of vetch and transported the harvested crop to a local grain mill where it was mixed with other ingredients in a recipe that produced a product called "cow cake" which he distributed to the cattle troughs that were strategically located in the grazing pastures that were seeded with KR Bluestem grass. He placed a large cubic block of salt minerals called a "cow lick" near each of the feeding troughs and scattered small square bales of alfalfa hay for up to 200 white-faced Herefords.

Must of had the 1486 engine side panels in the body shop for a new paint job. We had a New Holland mill back in the day too, being driven by our biggest tractor, a Farmall 400. Had to watch the amount of corn or oats going in the mill or the 400 would start bucking. Nice video. Thanks

Side panels have a tendency to stay in the field when we work on stuff around here because we just want to get back to farming and not take the time to put them back on lol easier to work on the next time

Yup grandpa use to do the same thing but the mill around here shut down years ago and we messed around with smaller grinders for a while and it takes so much longer definitely worth getting a little bigger capacity one it eats just about all you can feed it

Hi 🙋🏻‍♂️ Good video! We use to do the same thing but we free choiced the salt and mineral . And we added liquid molasses. To me earcorn was a better cattle feed then just grinding shell corn . With earcorn it came out of the field at a higher moisture and with more nutrients in it compared to shell corn that has been run thru a dryer and cooked all the good stuff out!
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment we have mineral blocks out as well they can free choice and definitely agree ear corn is a much better choice the shell corn

Thank you for this video! Do you think it would chop some stalky hay? Or would it just jam?
@knappfarms

I think you would want to change out the screen for a larger one and maybe remove the rubber cover where it falls down into the hammer mill but I would think it could chop it up not 100% sure though

We ground feed with an F-20 with a chevy 327 in it.Governed at 3000 rpm and run the pto and pulley in second gear and overdrive just right for pto and pulley use.
@knappfarms

Did the F-20 have a variable speed PTO? Sounds like you had a cool unique machine there.

@@knappfarms We put four speed truck trany behind the 327 and we had a heysler overdrive behind that. 4x4x2 gave us 32 gears forward,8 speeds reverse and 8 speeds on the pto and pulley plus 2 speeds reverse on the pto and pulley. You couldn't shovel corn fast enough when grinding feed. It was fun to use for field work.

I thought about starting selling cattle feed and buying ether a 4020 John Deere with a new Holland grinder like you fellers have and getting a tractor with a new ideal corn picker that's mounted on the front of the tractor and building 5 corn cribs and mabey considering getting a silo built to store the cattle feed in and selling it when people need feed but problem is trying to find customers
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 3 жыл бұрын
I would love to do that eventually but like you said finding people I need a lot more storage because no one around me has cattle any more I’m hoping with the hobby farms picking up I will be able to find customers with just a couple cows it’s definitely a better way to make some money off the crops you grow

Yeah it’s about time for another rebuild as well as near as we can figure to Farmall 560 has over 40K hours on the block and we still use it every day to fees cattle and we where working on the 1486 and had the side panels off and they just haven’t got but back on yet because it’s running a little low oil pressure so we know we are gonna have to be back in there

@@knappfarms wonder if its actually low or the gauge screwed up. That's what happened to my 1086
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 4 жыл бұрын
That’s what we where hoping so we put in a secondary gauge and it only runs about 25 psi if you throttle it down when it’s warm if you keep rpms up it keeps over 30 unless you are working it hard in the field and it gets a little hot then the oil pressure drops to about 20 at 2200 rpms
