Thanks for the video. Reminds me that I need to grind barley tomorrow.

Cows can't digest corn that is intact because the hulls are indigestible cellulose. Ground corn is completely digestible, and your observation of their robust health is just right.

Ground cob corn is excellent feed! Some of the best looking carcasses I cut up weekly are fed ground cob corn.

@@knappfarms Hi, we've probably met before back when you were much younger. After I made the above comment I was worried that maybe I shouldn't mention names. I don't really know protocol on all this. It's nice to see Indi in your vid's. My grandfather is just down the rd. from you's. I used to visit your farm in my younger days, back when Grandma Knapp was still alive. Take care, hi to your mom and dad!

quick question, so do you just keep your ear corn in the trailers in the barn till you need to grind more,? or do you store them in anything else? and do you keep the ground corn in the feed trailer the entire time or transfer the ground corn to a bin? and once that is empty you grind more jw trying to figure out what I wanna do

We grind as we need about a months worth at a time and we just store it in the wagon as we use it we grind out of the wagons we have then we also have a ear corn crib that holds about 20 of these wagons we grind out of the rest of the year we just finished up with wagons and will be grinding out of the crib this weekend actually it will last us the summer until fall harvest

Nice looking lot of steers. What does the yeast do in their ground feed if you don't mind me asking?
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 2 жыл бұрын
It works with there natural digestion and breaks the corn down all the way so they can get everything out of it

I don’t know you get around on the tractors without chains on the the tires Iam not sure why anyone would say cows can’t digest corn we fed ear corn for years when I was a kid we still do but we kind of crack it now but we turn cows out on corn stalks and some times don’t feed them any hay at all!
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 2 жыл бұрын
Yup it might not be be as efficient whole but during cold snaps I will give the brood cows whole ear corn to help them out they definitely digest it and we have never had chains on the tractors just get those RPMs up and spin through lol
