That was interesting , If one is into making knives. However I can see it working very well for sharpening tools of any almost any shape.. Well Done.

I made a leather faced soft platen for my 2x42 I use for sharpening knife blades. It gives me a nice consistent convex edge. It's definitely an edge down technique.

I've done this before and it really does make for some really nice plunge and grind lines. On the other end of the spectrum you can try a tempered glass platen. Greatly reduced chatter and heat build up. If you don't want to buy one of the glass platen's from USA Knifemaker, you can go to a big box store and just get a piece of ceramic tile. Cut that down to the proper size and put the shiny side toward the belt.

So i know this is an old video i was curious why you needed to use the transfer punch instead of using the original platen and stacking the steel up and using it as a guide for the drill?

Nice man! Thanks for the tip. I can't quite afford that beauty you're working with, but I think I can modify mine to do something similar and have the same effect.

That's really cool....... it's probably a good thing that I don't have a grinder like that because I really want to try a marshmallow platten. I know it will end in disaster, I just want to try it and watch the carnage 😁

Chris....Where did you get the chuck key that you're using on your drill press? I can't find on like it anywhere! Thanks! :-)

Norm Jacques I actually made it, I just took a piece of 5/8” id pipe and cut the bar off the chuck key. Wedged it in there and welded it in place. Never hit my knuckles again!!!

This one slipped past me somehow. Would you always freehand it or would you use the table ever?

When you were pointing out things all I could see is glare from the lights. I think you need to try different lighting or a different way to show things.

Will this reduce chatter on higher grit belts?

How long is your gas strut for your tension on the belt? Also what's the weight of the strut?

Think you mean grind line, not plunge line. Couldn't see much because of the glare

If u say so wish I could seee the grind. The glare killed it while u was grinding trying to show it was useless
