I am so envious! Mazatlan is our favorite place. And you're right, the sunsets are the best. We are yearning to get back there, but hubby is going through a rough patch healthwise, so we have to get that ironed out first. Hoping it's not too long. Taking in Mazatlan with a crowd is really the best. Our whole family went with us in 2018 for our 50th wedding anniversary. We renewed our vows on the beach, the most heavenly trip yet! We've made friends and we miss them, they really helped our celebration. Glad you could enjoy our city for us!

Wow, 200,000,000 bags of coffee. I'd buy your coffee but I'm already hete in Mexico and buy 100% Mexican coffee at Costco. It's cheap and it's really good. And I like supporting the local economy. I think Mazatlán has so much more cultural attractions to offer than Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán has it's unique historical downtown with a neoclassic style, theaters, luxury mansions form XIX century, it's great traditional Carnaval, their music, regional food, colonial towns around like Copala, Cosalá, Rosario with a vernacular architecture. There are also important modern attractions like it's soccer and baseball stadiums, etc.. Puerto Vallarta is just a picturesque stereotyped mexican tiles roof artificial town which nobody knew it existed before Elizabeth Taylor came here in the sixties which now is surrounded by international brands resorts in the area and it has been now chosen by the LGBT community as the new Capital Gay City. Honestly i think nature is more exuberant in Jalisco and Nayarit Coast, so they have better beaches and mountains but that doesn't necessarily mean they will stand on the top of mexican pacific coast destination forever, Mazatlán is growing and growing day to day

@Silvia Hoard OMG, it took this long for me to receive your question? wow... Anyway, can't really recommend hotel, we always rent via some 3rd party like airbnb or craigs list or a Mazatlan FB group. As far as when to go... Year round, pretty much... we've been there through every month of the year. This year Jan-most of Apr was much colder than usual... summertime, late June, July, and some of August. can be really hot but if you're tolerance level for heat is high, you can sail through them pretty easy... Being from Houston, Tx it didn't bother us to much. Best wishes for a great trip to Mazatlan...

Mazatlán is a beach town on the Pacific coast in the state of Sinaloa. It’s an interesting city in that it relies on its resorts and attractions as part of its local economy, but its location within one of Mexico’s most dangerous states is a major concern for many tourists. Most sightseeing locations within the city are relatively safe, however it’s the surrounding area and getting to and from the city that is dangerous. Driving outside the city is considered risky and foreigners are advised against traveling at night. Visitors in recent years have reported feeling safe, but with the new warnings for Sinaloa, you may want to visit another of Mexico’s beautiful resort towns.

Sinaloa has historically been one of the safest states in Mexico actually. People there adore the sinaloan cartel religiously (literally), so the cartel is actually pretty respectful of the locals, and individual criminals usually fear cartels. Sinaloa is a pretty calm state, there are many worse states (For example, Q. Roo, where cancun, tulum and all that is, has crime rates 3 or 4 times higher than Sinaloa)
