‪@nolanventures473‬ hikes up to Grinnell Glacier via the Grinnell Glacier trail from the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park in Montana. Our out and back ended up at about 13 miles and 2,300 feet of elevation gain. Once you get to the Upper Grinnell Lake most people just stop there. We suggest walking along the length of the lake (east side of the lake) toward Grinnell Glacier. It adds some distance but you get great views of the glacier as well as the rather large icebergs in the lake. This is a heavily trafficked trail so starting early is a must. Met some great people along the trail - enjoy!

For the quality of the videos you make, it’s mind boggling that you get so little views. Definitely one of the most underrated channel’s on KZbin.

Awesome video! I did this hike back in 1976 and it was one of my favorites!! I had the privilege of driving a Red Bus in 1975 and was unable to get to this hike (it was a wet and cooler summer). I have been able to vacation in the Park on 9 separate trips!

Thank you! I'm "committed" to nike trail shoes because I've had such great luck reducing leg/foot fatigue on long hikes with lots of elevation. Their colors are kinda wild, which is appropriate. 💙

Your video was nicely filmed. We were there one week after you and it's amazing how many more icebergs you had, along with increased water flow. It took only one week of summer temps and lack of rain to make things look quite different, but still beautiful. I hope more rain comes soon, along with more snow for the area this winter.

Love your video! Was nice to see you add comments from people you met on the trail. The guy from Massachusetts was awesome and seemed so upbeat and fun. I’m sure he enjoyed the beautiful views on the Grinnell Glacier Trail, while I only got to see them sitting in my living room while enjoying your video. The waterfalls seemed to have a lot of strength … bet water was cold …. and the wife really went out swimming with the ice bergs? Great video, thank you for sharing.

I agree they are both fantastic and in my top ten - maybe top 5. They are very busy so we pick and choose our days and times to hike them. Some of our favorites are a bit longer. The Pitamakan/Dawson loop in Two medicine and the Gunsight trail from Jackson glacier overlook to lake McDonald lodge are two of our favorites. Thank you for the comment and enjoy the trails!

I'd have to jump in, it's the ultimate refresher! I hiked Avalanche Lake about a month ago and the destination was just unbelievable. I wanted to do this one but I didn't have the time. I actually rode a bicycle 32 miles in 2 days and did the Going to the Sun Rd and that was really by bike. I was completely spent when I got to Lake McDonald lodge. I'm gonna try and do Grinnell Lake Trail next year!

It different for everyone. A better gauge is the miles and elevation gain which is in the video. Check that and then compare it to your past ventures out. Enjoy the wilderness!

The trail was closed beyond the little waterfall that gets you wet when we were there. The sign said "danger loose snow". People were continuing on but we take warnings seriously.

I'll be hiking that trail in less than 3 weeks. Great video. Looks like the weather was hot for your hike. How long did it take you both for the round trip? And do you feel the hiking poles are worth the weight to bring along?

I carried mine on my pack the whole time but they are helpful on the way down. Took us about 2.5 hours up (we stop a good amount for photos and video). Spent about 2.5 hours at the lake and glacier. Took us about 2 hours on the way down to the trailhead. Enjoy the trails!!

I'm a huge believer of the trekking poles, and if you never use them on the way up, as I do not, totally worth it the entire way down. I have found that I feel better at the end of long hikes and swear that they increase my longevity as hiker. Enjoy, it's fantastic!

Depends on your goal and how fast you are able to move. It’s different for everybody. Experienced mountain hikers (not fitness level) will take less time than others. We took about 2.5 hours on the way up, two hours at the lake, and about two hours down. Enjoy the trails!!

Why did you not take the boat ride option?
@nolanventures473
@nolanventures473 Ай бұрын
The boats leave at pre-determined times which are later than we like to start. I go early to get solitude with less folks on the trail. If you take the boat, you have to wait for it and you have to time your hike around that schedule - and then you are hiking with all of the people on the boat. Also, the boat goes on the lake, which as you can imagine, is flat. It’s the flattest and easiest part of this hike. So while it saves miles, they are the easiest miles, it hamstrings your timing, and you hike in a crowd. Hiking on my time with less people is certainly for me. If you don’t mind the later start and hiking in a crowd, then the boat is for you. Happy trails!
