Very cool, I hope JustFlight will listen to your feedback! It's great to see more old steam-gauge aircraft represented, and I have a soft spot for the PA-28 in particular because that's what the Commodore 64 and Apple II versions of Flight Simulator II used instead of the Cessna from the Microsoft versions, I always thought they were a little better looking than a Cessna, more business-like, and I also bought and loved the Dreamfleet Archer II for Flight Simulator 2002 which had similar attention to detail to this, so it will be nice to have an old familiar friend back.

Two things I’ve noticed. One is that the attitude indicator shouldn’t stabilize when you turn on the master switch since the gyro inside is vacuum powered and not electric. It should stabilize after engine start and vacuum power is achieved. Second it doesn’t simulate the constant speed propeller very well. I’m sure as a CFI you know that when you bring the throttle lever back from full power the propeller RPM remains the same for a while. Other than that I think it’s a really fantastic product. I already own it and I love it. Great review.

Great review. Not a pilot but have flown as a passenger and had a little go on the controls of a friend's PA-28. I also had the JF Arrow for FSX and flew it loads about 15 years ago. This seems like a HUGE step up in every way, but yeah, it does seem a bit odd how it just starts rolling really easily. I hope MS/Asobo will sort that out. I'm also surprised you were able to land that harshly without your gear being completely destroyed! Can't imagine the gear would survive that in real life.

I am not a pilot. The closest I've ever gotten to flying lessons was 40+ years ago when I was often the passenger in the rented Cessna while my newly licensed friend would get his hours toward various certifications. As for flight sims, I really only got into it seriously when MSFS 2020 came out. I play it as a way to relax and see scenery. I never start cold and dark and I rarely do the research to determine the proper speeds and stuff. This add on may change that. For the first time, I want to treat the sim more like a sim and do things the right way. There's not much motivation to try to be realistic if the plane itself is not complete and/or not realistic. With this one, I would really feel like I had learned something (like I've already learned that it does indeed drop like a rock on approach if the power is low!). I still don't want to pursue my PPL, but I am more motivated by this plane to try to be a better sim pilot! Thanks for the review.

Everything in modern games is PBR (physically based rendering) these days. All the big 3D engines (Unreal comes to mind) use it. It's what gives us those lovely reflections and so on. It's not quite what they use in the movies though, they use ray-tracing which actually simulates the light as it moves through a scene. The latest GeForce cards (such as the one our lovely Gripper has) can do ray-tracing in real-time but as of yet it's only a single bounce. Raytracing is incredibly mathematically intensive so PBR simulates a lot of things using clever tricks such as "measuring" the angle and proximity of surfaces to produce affects like ambient occlusion which most of us don't notice - unless it's not there and then things just look "off". It is an exquisite paint job though, regardless.

The problem with the taxing I think is that it Idles at 1300RPM, I've only flown two Arrows in the past (never a iii) but the RPM was generally around 800, which sounds like it would be more in line and not cause you the plane to taxi at 35knotts. I imagine I am wearing these brakes out super fast with the amount I have to use them during my normal taxiing. Loading the fuel and passenger/cargo weight to 100% slows her down a little on the ground but it does not seem like a fantastic fix since it sort of messes with your CG a bit.
@waltersbg3 жыл бұрын
There copilot looks great in VR, no complaints about that. But there is a bug in that feature. The copilot that shows up next to you is the PILOT model that you have selected in the MSFS options. So, if you look from an external camera, you will see the copilot you expect but as you get closer or go inside, it will switch to JustFlight's version of your copilot, which will be what was your pilot! Hopefully fixed soon.

@Gripper Sim, I have 30 hours in a C172, going to solo soon and then change my flight school. However I have made a mistake IRL that was very embarrassing, I forgot to remove the front chock after doing all of my checks and preps. To people with no real flight experience, this is equivalent to leaving all of your stuff on the roof of your car as you try to drive away, and then you realize you left your stuff on the roof after it all falls off the car, and you are doing this near a bunch of random people.

Great aircraft, but why the artifical horizon starts to work when battery master is on but engine is not working? I think that the artifical horizon is vacuum driven, only turn coordinator has electrical source of power.

Thanks for the fantastic review! Question: Can this aircraft be considered to fill the gap for serious IFR training until MSFS fixes its G1000 etc? How do the G430/530 perform compared to real life? For the very important haptic feeling - is Realsimgear G430/530 hardware supported? I do not want to purchase and be disappointed about yet another non-IFR capable aircraft
