Their original dance from the 1995 Worlds. It's an incredibly difficult dance done almost entirely with face to face dance holds and many difficult steps. And of course, they have incredible power and athleticism.

This was a superb performance. Technically, G&P are one of the best couples ice dancing has ever seen.

I've had the privilege of taking lessons with Oksana, and she's wonderful! Not only is she a great skater, but she's also a great person! She's so nice and pretty, and she's so modest and humble.

Oops, I said that both programs 'floated' twice! What I meant to say was that both had that wonderful 'ballroom' dance quality that the quickstep requires.

This dance has everything. Incredible difficulty, stellar execution, closeness, unision, speed, energy, great expression, clever choreography. Nothing missing. The Finns also had an incredible Quickstep this year. Unfortunately not nearly as difficult as Gritschuk & Platov, but every other aspect of it was outstanding. Bourne & Kraatz also had a great one, and one of their best ever, even though I would have had them 3rd behind these 2 outstanding ones. So really 3 stellar Quicksteps this year, but this is one of the best original dances of all time. I thouroghly enjoyed it.

Both couples had phenomenal quicksteps. Although Rakhamo & Kokko's was much simpler in terms of both footwork and choreography, both OD's floated across the ice and had that wonderful 'floating' quality.

To show how rigged the 2014 Olympics was for Davis & White to win unless they fell 3 times their Finnstep had the top level while Virtue & Moir's did not, but Rakhammo & Kokko who were commentating actually said Virtue & Moir did that particular step correctly, some other teams also did, and Davis & White did not. They might actually be the experts in it since they you know invented it (it is part of this actual dance).

@@gk891 yeah they mentioned on air Davis & White did not do the step right, yet I think they were the only team who got a level 4 on it (or atleast Virtue & Moir only got a level 3). They mentioned of the top 5 they were the ones who did it most incorrectly.

@quafer Glad you agree. What I really disliked about Bourne & Kraatz was all the hand to hand and side by side skating. Skating with such simple handholds enables ice dancers to skate with more speed and power but they couldn't even do that! B&K had improved tremendously under Klimova & Ponomarenko in 1995 but their improvement really stalled after that. I could never understand why so many people made them out to be so great.

@quafer I dont understand why there was even bloc judging at the 98 Olympics. The top 2 Russian teams were going to go 1-2 clearly even without the bloc judging. And the Russians shouldnt have even cared about what happened with the rest including their 3rd team who they only unexpectedly needed to step up as their #1 two years later after a horrible career ending injury to Anjelika. It was a shame there was bloc judging which unfairly took away due recognition to the top 2 Russian teams.

I strongly disagree. B&K had a significantly easier quickstep (in terms of both steps and handholds) that also had a lot of unison problems. Furthermore, Grishuk & Platov actually knew how to use their edges to speed up around corners and extend their freelegs (something Shae & Vic couldn't do very well).
@gk891

@@azbycx56 G&P skated most of their OD in either waltz hold or foxtrot holds. While B&K did make pretty good use of the waltz holds in their OD that year, they also made much more extensive use of the kilian hold which is significantly easier than the waltz or foxtrot holds. IMO anyways. Nevertheless, B&K's OD that year was probably one of their greatest ODs of their careers together. Their ODs have often been weaknesses but their 1994 rhumba, 1995 quickstep, and their 2001 OD were all quite good.

Haha, get real. Bourne and Kraatz had a very good quickstep but in no way was it better then this. I might have placed them 3rd in the quickstep over the French but no way over this or the Finns in this dance.

In fairness they also were victims of the ridiculous Canadian media with such non skating experts as Steve Milton and Beverly Smith acting like they were gods gift to dance and not winning every event due to politics and block judging. When people say that you have no reason to examine your own skating and look at areas to improve. Even Tracy Wilson, someone extremely knowledgable on dance, and who should know better, and Sandra Bezic, who is very knowledgable on pairs and to some extent singles, creating pro shows, and general choreography, but admits herself "I am not an authority on dance" allowed themselves to get caught up in the wave, and go along with things they probably deep down didn't even believe in the Bourne & Kraatz train. When you are told by everyone, you are perfect, and only don't win everything due to politics and corruption, why would you take note that you have too much side by side skating, need to improve posture, or any of those things.

@@gk891 True, but she was also showing gradual signs of being completely off her rocker by that point. The signs were slowly coming but already there before she became their part time coach in fall 95, then their full time coach in summer 96. Which is sad as at her peak she was both the best technical and most creative of all the great Russian coaches IMO, particularly moreso than Linichuk. It was sad too for Bourne & Kraatz too who aren't the brightest bulbs as people in general, so were never going to be smart enough to see both through their increasingly delusional and short sighted coach, and the crazy Canadian media and commentators. Tarasova actualy read them the shit without sugar coating reality, and got them somewhat back on track to finish their career. I honestly thought they would retire for sure after the 2000 season.

@@rolandgreen7484 Yes they got back on track in 2001. But they were a bit lucky that the Worlds were in Canada that year because I thought their fourth place in the free dance was a bit generous. Because I honestly would've had the Lithuanians ahead of them. At least in the FD. I did have B&K quite a bit ahead in the OD though. I can't comment on the compulsories since I never saw D&V's compulsories at the 2001 Worlds. What's funny though is that I still had both the Canadians and Lithuanians ahead of Lobacheva & Averbukh at that competition. As overrated and overmarked as B&K often were, Lobacheva & Averbukh were even worse in that regard. IMO anyways.

@@gk891 A couple thoughts on the 2001 worlds. I had the rankings of everyone, including the top 5, wildly different from dance to dance. For instance I had Bourne & Kraatz 5th or lower (probably even lower) in the free dance where they had a pretty messy performance, even though the content was quite good which was unusual for them. However they definitely should have been higher than 4th in the original dance, in fact I think there is a strong case they should have won the original dance. Even Anissina & Peizerat's original dance wasn't great, the Italians was very good and had a great feel for the theme, but lacking in content like always for them. Of course they came 4th and nearly 3rd in both, like it was the exact same performance, which was par for the judging of the entire dance event that year. Rod Black and Tracy Wilson rightly called out how ridiculous the entire field (not just the top teams which is one thing) like way down to the 20s didn't change a spot from dance to dance, which no way mirrored the actual performances. As for the results of the 2001 worlds while wrong, I get how they all came out as they did. The Italians and Russians were the only two teams who came into worlds skating their best consistently. The French skated badly all season until worlds, and the Italians were in fact skating better the entire season, until worlds when the French finally got their act together. Lobacheva & Averbuhk likewise had an excellent season of consistently skating their best up to worlds. Bourne & Kraatz had a decent season pre worlds but were still working their way back up, and the Lithunians had a couple rough outings before worlds, but also had fallen out of favor completely by then (not that they were ever much in favor, even when winning their lone world medal). So what they came into worlds as and doing had a big impact on the results of worlds.
