Thanks Rob: a comprehensive review. Next time I buy new boots I’ll try these. I never wear anything other than pure wool walking socks; luckily my wife is a dab hand (well both hands) with the knitting needles. Here in Scotland it’s getting much colder. At 65 I don’t do anything too extreme at this time of year.

Very interesting and useful, Rob. I have a pair of what I call ‘traditional’ boots which I’ve had for 16 years and are still coping pretty well, but I think I’ll need to replace them before too long. I don’t think they would have survived that long if I’d done as much walking as you; I’ve only been a regular walker since I moved to Newton Poppleford in 2018. As most of my walks are on or around the Pebblebed Heaths and the River Otter, I really appreciate your content from a ‘local’s’ point of view.

Thank you Brian, I'm glad you got something from it. Funny enough I called these a traditional boot in previous takes but not in the one that made the final cut. I'm hoping for good things from these boots as I tend to wear boots out quite quickly (it gets expensive) I filmed this in Harpford Woods so you probably recognised the location, some great walks around Newton Pop!

I go for the Merrell moab boots, really good value. They might not be the best technically, but theyre comfortable and durable, they'll last a while.

They do look pretty good but unfortunately for me I don't think they cater for wide feet.

The Grisport work boots are the best on the market, Tough, and great cushion sole. When walking over sharp quarry stones 8 hours per 5-6 days per week there is nothing worse than sore feet. I am you normally get 9 months for a pair , which great in very aggressive conditions,

I tried pair grisport few years ago and weren't bad not the best leather but did job great

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm still happy with mine so far, I think it's been about 3 months and they have barely showing any wear. Time will tell but usually by now I'd be wearing through the sole.

They really are great boots, check out the Peaklander or the Windemere on the website. They're a regular width and look like a similar boot, thanks for watching.

@@WalkingDevon Yes. But to me, regular, is wide, as I have narrow feet and need to use a Schol sports insole in them as well as what they come with, and thick socks. I have a pair of the Decoy. Been wearing them pretty much every day since I bought them earlier this year, for work, as a gardener, bit wearing only thin socks makes them fit a bit ‘sloppy’. Are the new gamekeeper ones a bit narrower, as I have just bought a pair for hiking in, and they havnt arrived yet. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
