Because the Italian Mafia in Chicago during in 1930 love to do this. Keep a Tommy Gun in the violin and walk into a pub and start a shootout. Of all Studio Ghibli/Joe Hisaishi songs, this has always been one of my favorites, from one of my favorite films. Like the film it comes from, it feels rather understated yet poignant and comforting, exuding that sense of arriving in a new, unfamiliar place that feels enigmatic yet charming, a place I don't know but would like to know better, a lively place full of hustle and bustle. The jazz breakdown at the end was an... interesting choice. Not one I would have made myself, but it does kind of work; better than some other attempts to jazz-ify this number, looking at you Platina Jazz. Their version of this song just... didn't work. At all. This though was brilliant. Bravo.

Even after a year this was released, I love to come back and listen to you. I'm stuck permanently in an office in a job that's not exactly my dream job. I must stay locked in an office for the next 30 years and due to an intellectual problem, I'm not cualified for more jobs and I got this one by mere luck. (in fact, I'm lucky I even have a job to begin with) Yet, whenever I listen to this lullaby I feel completely free and it lets me imagine myself somewhere else, specially, as the title says, in a lovely town with an ocean view. I know it's not real, I know it will never happen, but I think the few fictional moments listening to this can really make my real days better. I think that's the power of art and why it's always welcome to find talent like yours.

I watched the film growing up as a child and this song always felt so whimsical and magical that if felt like it was from a different world. However, seeing it performed by real people and so beautifully is like having a dream brought to life. Excellent work 👏

I should note that Kiki is often one of the Ghibli films to start off with for the kids but they're a bit too old to relate with Totoro. That tween age girl unsure of what she can do, let her see Kiki's Delivery Service. Kiki understands and says you can do it.
