Just chiming in on dual-wielding: I completely agree! In reality, holding two weapons like that doesn't give you "more attacks", and usually involved a parrying dagger or swordcatcher. It's a defensive approach to combat, not a defensive one.

I really appreciate your added perspective on this!

I made dual wielding add to the primary weapon, as opposed to another attack. But I’m also experimenting with a second attack, though I really think it’s a parry aid.

@@malfarian Yeah, wielding a second weapon is more of a defensive thing. Considering the physics involved it makes sense that the secondary weapon (in the less dominant hand) would be pulled back or used to block while the other is used to strike. The idea that it somehow increases attacks or damage seems a bit off to me.

@@gnomebotstudios my thought is that the second weapon helps create the opportunity to deal increased damage with main hand.

12:30 two-weapon wielding As someone who practiced Arnis for a little bit, I can confirm that we one weapon parries, the other weapon strikes. If you're using two weapons on an unarmed opponent though, you're getting additional hits as long as you're not grappled.

That's very insightful and makes perfect sense. Thank you for this!

Maybe holding a second weapon gives you 1 soak, but you can't sacrifice it, and you can't hunnker behind it? Or, it opens up a bind as a reaction? I dunno. Not a big thing; just a thing people like to do.

To me shields and armor are specifically designed to provide protection and physically "soak" up impacts from attacks, weapons not so much. Having a second weapon add SOAK gets into dividing how SOAK is applied, since it could only be used against melee attacks, not ranged attacks. This is the kind of complexity I worked hard to avoid with the design. Ultimately not a big thing like you said. I'm sure homebrewers will get to work on this if it's something they're set on having in their games. However, I do think it will invite some fiddly details into the mix. Hey, thanks for watching the video!
