yes I would settle for either u/b or r/b, almost definitely u/b because of how strong hostage taker and siren stormcaller, altho I suppose b/r could play capturing crew..

I want to make this deck, but i was thinking to splash green or not even include green because of the treasure mechanic, to add Vraska, Relic Seeker. What do you think?

I did that at first, but I realized pirates wanted to be more to the ground. If you can get your hands on like 2 or vraska's and you wanna include it in this deck for flavor reasons (or that vraska is just a good card lol) by all means do so Edit: By throwing those in you should probably maindeck counters because vraska is a slow card

If you're trying to be aggressive, go for it. Pirates has A LOT of two drops and these were the best for the strategy I was going for

"Dies to removal" is one of the most annoying arguments against any creature

Agreed. A card should be judged based on it's impact even if it is removed when it enters/ first turn. Admiral Beckett Brass, even if killed after combat is an anthem for probably 3 of your pirates on turn 4 (which means you may even be able to trigger her ability). If she stays out she is strong and if she doesn't, well that sucks but then you've got them to use a removal spell. Also, you're playing both Kitesail and Metallic mimic in this deck. Kitesail will remove one of the removal cards from their hands, and Mimic will make it resilient to all but Walk the Plank and a Revolted Push. Similarily, another overrated card is such simply because it doesn't die to removal. The next time someone raves about Carnage Tyrant, I swear I will boot them in the nuts. You have Harsh Scrutiny (underated card imo, it's a 1 drop that allows you to remove their best option creature wise in a creature heavy meta and then allows you to scry on top of it all. Additionally, you have doomfall, trial of ambition and bontu's last reckoning. Settle the wreckage is a pretty damn good trade, 4 mana for at 6 mana threat that also gives them ramp. In green you have, well Carnage Tyrant for one, but a lot of the big dinos can straight up trade with it. Red is the only one with alot of issues with it, which is good IMO. Ramunap Red is pretty strong, it's nice that it has a counter. Any deck with Black, Blue, White or Green can find ways to easily deal with it, and really, if you kill carnage after it's resolved, it's done nothing and they've wasted turn 6, a turn that can often close out a game.

I think it's more of a 3 toughness vs 4 toughness debate. It's a huge difference of what it can die to when you have that extra number; ignoring revolted fatal pushes and what not

Very nice deck! yup im gonna be the first to ask. Why not Skyship Plunder? Great synergy with the mimic! his trigger to add extra counters could get out of control. one last fun twist. drop the ship and add Saheeli. making the pirate that drains 1/3 of life then next turn drop a planeswalker and make a haste copy to spread the pain AGAIN and swing with 2 dtouch menace pirates :-) otherwise ur deck and my first thoughts were almost card for card. thx for the video!

heres my ub marionette master deck. Beat 4c energy today. Basically Tezzeret touch a hope for a turn 3 5/5 flyer, or a ballista for a turn 3 6/6b or a harvester for a turn 4 5/5 flying lifelink, swing in for good early damage. If they kill it you get it back. Turn 5 spell swindle for treasures to turn 6 marionette master or monster deadeye plunderer. Walking ballista can dump all its counters and die to trigger marionette master. Dude its so much fun. 3x renegade map 4x hope of ghirapur 4x contraband kingpin 4x aethersphere harvester 4x chief of the foundry 4x walking ballista 4x tezzeret touch 4x spell swindle 4x marionette master 3x deadeye plunderer 4x drowned catacombs 9x swamps 9x islands Sideboard switch to control 4x yahennis expertise 3x fatal push 4x vraska contempt 4x disallow

Not to interested in dinos right now, I'd lime to try pirates (and I think UB is the best built for them) and vampires as well. What do u think of an orzhov lifelink token vampire deck? Vona and the legendary 2/2 seems good, and also with all the lifegain we could try the Crested Sunmare route...

Would you consider Fatal Push over Walk the Plank? Or maybe even adding in Opt? This is by far the toughest deck to build in this set. Soooo many choices!! I'd honestly even like to try and include Vraska, though that'd be tough and probably not very competitive.

Vraska would be an easy inclusion if we played some sort of energy theme and played full 4 aether hub. A fourth color is taxing on a mana base that's trying to hit all three colors by turns 2-3. Fatal Push is probably the better card (Instant speed, one mana, takes care of most things) but walk the plank is not bad at all. Premium removal. Up there with unlicensed disintegration and harnessed lightning in terms of power.

I'm almost thinking 3 of each maybe? WtP/FP. Just for versatile removal. Not sure. We shall see as playtesting is done! Great video though- best opinion on pirates I've heard thus far.

I thought about that- But other than prying blade I don't really have other ways to get her out. Plus prying blade is slow, unfortunately. (Super useful on a flyer though!) Too many times I've relied on treasure, and held an unplayable Vraska in my hand. My solution was Captain Lannery Storm, but then you're splashing red and it gets messy haha. So I think the final solution is to splash green with the Kaladesh fast lands (Blooming Marsh and Botanical Sanctum) to just hard cast Vraska turn 6.

I feel like 2-4 Lookout's Dispersal should be in the main, at the expense of your top end. Red isn't really necessary here anyways and a better mana leak will be even better in standard this time. It also justifies playing the black one drop a little more, imo as that will give us an alternate turn 3 play of running our explorer out and holding up counter magic. Perhaps if you make the UB build, you'll agree with that notion. Thanks. If you do go red, Kari Zev will be happy at least.

My grixis raid deck is a more aggressive pirates deck (video will be out soon on it). The sideboard runs a full playset of lookout's dispersal. You're always welcome to mainboard it depending on your local meta.

Deadeye Tracker should be able to explore even if there's no cards in opponent's graveyard. That part of the wording is after the colon.

Well it's supposed to be "Cost ...: " "Effect". They should have written the target cards in the graveyard as part of the cost if the spell couldn't be carried out otherwise.

It's not the cost/effect rules that matters, it is the legal targets. That's why spells are countered if you remove or give hexproof to the all the legal targets of a spell. Also you can't pay costs with opponents resources.

good that was the deck I was leaning towards anyway and is a lot cheaper! I'm hoping to buy the pieces before any pro tour price hike. do you not think going blue/black and cutting out admiral beckett brass would be more competitive? the 3 pirates doing combat damage trigger seems bad. if you achieve it you're winning anyway and if you're behind its impossible. also I have a concern about your list - the life loss from ruin raider and ravager. we seem to be hurting our own life total with no life gain to help mitigate it. is that not a big issue vs ranumap red or if we come across something like carnage tyrant? what was it you recommended as the ruin raider alternative? skyship plunderer?

It's hard to tell right now. But definitely get your hands on siren stormtamer, kitesail freebooter, hostage taker and deadeye tracker. The more I play with these cards, the more I like them.

Later today I'm releasing a much more aggro version of pirates, and I'm playing her. In this deck, the two drop slot is pretty much filled up. If you don't want to pay for metallic mimic you can probably just switch the 3 of mimic for 3 of kari zev

TyTanium Swag or just don't splash green and keep Vraska, pirate decks can spam artifacts which can add any sort of mana to your pool. So since Vraska only needs one green mana, you're good to go.
