Superfeet Trail Blazer Insoles are currently my favorite insoles on the Appalachian Trail. In this video, I'll show you all of the features, plus how they wore over time.
DISCLAIMER: While I bought my last pair, this new pair was given to me by Superfeet.
If you're interested in purchasing a pair, the cheapest price on Amazon is listed in the link below. If you purchase something through that link, I'll get a little kickback. So thanks!

Three favorite parts were 1) why you replaced due to that little heat spot wear. 2) how to properly trim and 3) why you went with Trailblazers which I think is now renamed to HIKe and why you preferred it over the standard green ones. And I appreciated the mileage use. Great video.

Back when I was a pup.....and had to run for my law enforcement and military jobs and my sanity.....I developed plantar fasciitis...which of course I worked through with the help of Superfeet "greens". I'm 63 now, and retired; I attempted an AT thru hike this year, and came off trail due to a serious lower back-leg injury that my doctors are recommending surgery for. But, before I allow the butchers to start cutting, I am in rehab, losing some additional pounds, and lowering my pack weight (I was at 27-29 lbs, I am shooting for sub 17-20). All that said, I find Altra shoes incredibly comfortable, but was having difficulty finding a better insole that would fit Altra wide toe box shoes. Hallelujah! It appears that the "Trailblazer" may meet the need. And it looked like you wear Altras? Again....Hallelujah!

Hi Griz. Great review! When I was an industrial product designer I designed shock attenuation for athletic footwear. One of the best examples of an easy way to improve the comfort to your feet is to make a footbed that conforms anatomically to your feet. Most shoes don't. Imagine standing sand. It conforms to your foot surface anatomically. That disperses any pressure to the surface area of your foot over a far greater surface, than just the pressure points of the heel, outer edge of the foot, and the first metatarsal joints. That equals more comfort. So, when the Super Feet has that well formed heel cup, it is dispersing pressure. Thumbs up. When the foam conforms to the shape of your foot, another thumbs up. Altra should supply a sock liner that does the same thing and they would have a better shoe. Only thing I dislike about any of my Altra Lone Peaks is the lack of torsional (twist) stiffness. That makes them awful off trail on sloping surface. Ankle tuner.

Thanks Grizzle for the review I’ve been looking for an insole replacement for my Olympus 4s ordered based on your review perfect fit size 11. They seem to help with Achilles and knee pain, the stock insole wasn’t working for me. thanks Again.

Awesome video / review. Just bought these for trail running in my Lone Peak 5s. I have superfeet blues in my Merrell Moabs for work. These trailblazers.. do they calm down in the arch at all? Feels just slightly like golf balls in my arch but comfy everywhere else and are perfect size/width for the lone peaks but I def need the arch to calm down.

Do you think these are a good fit for Wildland firefighting boots. My Wildland boots have a heel on them and a decent arch. Do you think this would be a little to much for that?!

@GrizzleGear
@GrizzleGear 5 жыл бұрын
Wow. I've never gotten a blister from using them. Have you ever worn super feet insoles before? You should definitely ease into them and not wear them regularly till your feet adjust... Did they maybe take up more room than your old insoles in your shoe and cause friction.?

Hi, I chose this pair of insoles for my hoka one one torrent, thanks to the few reviews I could find on youtube and yours. I cut them out and they fit well. I went out at a slow pace (race in 3 days) to test them and "break" them. I'm comfortable in it, the arch support reminds me of my orthopedic insoles that I had had when I was younger. We feel that it takes the shape of the feet. However I have some questions and concerns. Firstly, the soles are higher than the original ones and the "ball" of the heel seems a little less locked in the shoe, my heel seems to come out slightly. I imagine that over time it will adjust and get thinner ... Also I wonder what are the real advantages of such an insole, I understand that it reduces pressure points, reduces the risk of injury and fatigue of the feet, that it improves comfort over long distance. But I still doubt that it will be useful over a short distance (less than 10km). Indeed these soles are heavier than the simple original thin soles, thicker and therefore I would say that we have more cushioning and therefore less dynamism, speed ?? Also this carbon plate, protects stones, okay, but it makes the terrain feel less, and I also feel like I have lost stability with this extra thickness. In short, I would just like to know if it's better that I do my 7km trail with these insoles or with the original Hoka insoles, what are your opinions about the points I mentioned, in particular the loss of dynamism, loss of energy in the cushioning, loss of speed? (I have calves and Achilles tendons in steel, I ran a lot in 5fingers ^^) I hope that someone will have had the courage to read everything despite the faults (I am French) and will be able to give me his opinion. Thank you in advance !

Does the heel sit properly in the heel of the boot or does it raise it as I have found the blue and green lift my heel too much and my heel is too high and don't fit snugly in the heel of the boot as a result.

I just bought these, and I think they aid in locking my foot down, and I don’t feel like I’m too high up. Only have 30 miles on them. Got them when I got my danner light 2s, and overall I’m way more comfy and “protected” than when I wore sneakers lol

Hi i just got my first ever insoles from superfeet, the green ones. Put them in my goretex lined boots. I then read the superfeet’s disclaimer that their orthotics could damage the goretex lining, so any bad experience or light you could shed on that ? Secondly, with their heel stabiliser, the footbed has risen almost half an inch from what it was with the stock insoles, won’t that disrupt the fitting of the boot and how well my heel sits in the boot ? I’m brand new to both aftermarket insoles and goretex lined boots. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Aloha. I'm just seeing your post now. I've never used gortex footwear. I prefer quick drying footwear That breathes well. As far as the heel lift in your shoe/boot, did you remove the stock insoles before putting the super feed in? It should be a very minimal raise. I'm talking 2 to 3 mm difference where your heel touches the bottom of the insole. It might seem higher, because the corners of the heel cup on the insole are higher, but that is to keep your heel from shifting while in the shoe.

I wear zero drop shoes. These would creat a drop. People with regular drop shoes wearing these will get even more rise and cushion to their shoes, right? Seems like too much.
@GrizzleGear
@GrizzleGear Жыл бұрын
I wore zero drops for 6 years. For about a year to year and a half, I was using these insoles. They did create about a 2 mm drop. I didn't notice much of a difference in my walking, or my feet other than the fact that I felt like I was getting a lot more support under my arch. I have since stop wearing zero drop. After 6 years of wearing zero drop shoes, I was developing Achilles issues, and I had plantar fasciitis. After a year of dealing with the pain, and continuing to wear zero drop shoes while trying to physically rehab, I switched to a pair with 5 mm drop, and within a week all my issues disappeared. I can safely say I'm done with zero drop. They worked great for me for a while, but I ended up developing issues with them. I'm glad they work for you. Wear what works! And just to note, my feet issues were not a result of using these insoles. When I was using these insoles, my feet felt great.

Pay attention. I said I got 750 out of the trailblazers. Then i say that I've gotten up to 800 miles out of a pair of superfeet green (different insole entirely) and then say at the end that getting over 700 miles out of the trailblazers (which I did) is impressive. No lies brah. Pay attention next time. :)
