If you don't have a big rebounding threat those teams will kill you on the boards. This pick is about situational basketball. He can rebound, set screens, and post up.

Centers followup on transition but with the speed of the game these days, theyre not part of transition game. Zach Edey: 7'4" 300lbs -- most dominant player college basketball has seen in a decade drops 37 and 10 on the consensus best center in college basketball (Clingan) SINGLEHANDEDLY took his tournament team to the championship 2x college Nat. POTY proved his stamina by playing every minute of the tournament outrun Clingan in the shuttle Show drastic improvement in his game, skill, and quickness over his career I'm confused what exactly won't translate. He's the biggest, strongest, most points player. He's bigger and stronger than everybody in the pros. The NBA is becoming center driven again (Jokic, Embiid, Wembanyama, AD, etc.) At worst, he is a lockdown defensive bigman who fouls out early and slows the best bigman on the opposing team At best, he is Yao Ming or a top 15 center all time In a draft class that we call trash, saying this is a bad pick boggles my mind and shows bias against dominant bigment.

@heavylobster43396 ай бұрын
Edey slides his feet impressively well given his size. He rarely gets blown by on switches. He does have the issue of not being able to cover longer distances, which makes longer closeouts and recovering on the weak side to block shots tough, which is why Purdue wanted to keep him near the rim at all costs, since they had no other rim protection. I think playing next to JJJ will be a massive boon for Edey and free him up to be more aggressive, as well as him not having to worry as much about foul trouble.

Couple of clowns just trying to act contrarian and pick the lesser known guy in the hopes they look like a real insider with expert knowledge. The Grizzlies needed a big man. That was by far their greatest need. They drafted the biggest man, and... oh... he just so happens to be the back to back consensus National Player of the Year. They're a below average shooting team with an elite paint penetration threat in Ja and they draft an elite balls screener, elite offensive rebounder, and elite put back/lob finisher. You gotta be a real smooth brained try hard to be able to twist this into a "bad" pick. Wow.

Purdue offensive scheme as a whole is to slow down and run a half court set. They don’t look to get out and run, rather slow down the tempo and pound the ball inside. Purdue didn’t have the lineup to afford Edey to get out on transition off a defensive rebound. They needed Edey to grab that rebound, offensive too, which he did at the highest level of his competition. They didn’t have many transition points as a team, collectively, so your scouting of his transition is amateur as it is more unknown then he is not able too. Gosh, how does someone pay these talking parrot heads money to be wrong consistently.

The echo chamber of nba analysts is unbelievable! Ask yourself this, how does Steven Adams compare to Zach Edey? I’d argue they are pretty close in speed. Edey will not rebound as good as Adams initially but has a high ceiling there. Edey can set screens very well, just like Adams. Edey will be slightly weaker on defense than Adams. Edey passing will be comparable to Adams, who is a good big passer. Then offensively, Edey will be wayyyyyyyyy better than Adams. Memphis couldn’t play Adams in close games, at the end of the game because every team simply fouled him. He was a 36% free throw shooter. Then Adams had no shot at all and basically could clean the glass. Edey is dramatically better than Adams’s offensively. Lastly, it is important to mention, Edey was faster than clingan in the combine. Actually, Edey and Sarr were extremely close. Edey was laterally faster than Clingan, and he beat Clingan in every single speed test, every single one!

I think you guys would be saying the same thing if this was Adams being drafted and we have proof how well that worked in previous seasons (2nd in the West x2) For my money, Edey has a higher ceiling than Adams and being on a rookie salary is only going to help with the Memphis big 3 timeline. You can say that you think Edey went too high for pick 9 BUT to say it can't work? I don't think you're paying attention. Memphis have no real business in the lottery, but an injury plagued season will do that, so here we are. They needed a player who can help them now, and had filled a much needed hole at center.
