To Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Grizzly 700, Yamaha invited myself and a handful of journalists to Colorado's Rampart Range Trail Network. The trails constantly traversed the mountains as we worked our way up and down the front range. The Grizzly exceeded my expectations in many ways. I had always assumed it was more utility focused but it actually rides super well in the trails and through rough terrain. The whole experience was a blast and with some performance upgrades the Grizzly could be an even more capable trail machine.

Excellent content gentlemen! You guys are living the atv dream! I was thinking Yamaha needs a 250cc beginner sport bike to allow people to jump from their 50 and 90cc engines. Yfz250r has a good ring to it. A place like this would be awesome to rip sport quads.

@@brutelife9177 100% agree there needs to be a machine to transition youth riders to the high performance machines. As well as introduce older riders to the sport without the excessive horsepower of the raptor or YFZR. The Raptor 250/350 were great machines for that. One things for sure is that’s an untapped market and there would be no competition for any brand that enters 👍

Pete, Tod from Denver, Colorado USA. I've ridden these trails since 2000, over three hundred Treks. Hundreds of miles and hours, it's like Walt Disney carved the trails in the mountains just for us. Danger is IMPLIED those rocks and roots form the edge of the trail and are not forgiving. I've been watching you fly, on the edge of my sit. I saw you at Flat Rocks Trailhead, right next to that is trail 682 We call it the Bobsled because there is 13 plus banked corners(about a mile) you can go as fast as you can hold on, it's our favorite. It also got washed out and 6 weeks ago it was treacherous a botched trail.... then they graded, filled and fixed it better than ever. Yesterday it was so fast, so fun. If you come back hit me up I'd love to go sport Quadn' with ya there. Big props to the Trail Maintenance crew
@PeteHager
@PeteHager 8 ай бұрын
Hey Tod. Thanks for all the feedback on the trail. I had over 3 hours of helmet cam from that day so most of my edit includes the more intense moments lol. There was plenty of time I was just cruising along staying in my comfort zone. Definitely some high risk situations but I had an absolute blast. I was amazed at how well maintained it was. Plus with it's narrower width the heavy, modern SxS's can't destroy everything like at most riding areas. It would be insane to ride a sport quad there. I honestly feel like I would be more hesitant and ride slower on one lol That place was pretty special and I hope to go back someday!

If you work for Yamaha then tell them to make a 850-1000 atv lineup and do some small updates to the current atvs. Like 7in display with gps more storage better towing rack capacity power etc it’s time to innovate. atvs are the same as 20 years ago. And I don’t understand why the new Kodiak 450 is missing options that the grizzly 450 had and the Kodiak 700 not coming standard with odometer is weird. Also Yamaha Viking needs redone so it can compete with the Polaris and canam models with full cabs and ac

Well, now i want a Grizzly. This video was more interesting to watch than i expected (no sport quads). Seema like a really capable machine and i love that it shares the same power plant as the Rappy. Also cool to see you riding with other faces i recognize like the boys from RMATV and TFL. Awesome vid Pete! I need to get back out to Colorado.
@PeteHager
@PeteHager Жыл бұрын
Dude I left thinking the same thing. The whole experience educated me on the engineering tactics of Yamaha. They really take their platforms and refine them to meet the needs of the majority of their consumers. People that buy Yamahas expect quality, reliability, and performance out of their machines and because they aren’t updating and changing their platforms constantly it helps them retain that reliability. Honestly if you did some suspension work to that machine it would be crazy fast on the trails 😅🤘
@daviddasher7357
@daviddasher7357 4 ай бұрын
@@PeteHager ???What type of suspension work would you suggest???? 2018 Grizzly 700eps. I agree that suspension bottoms out sometimes on the unexpected whoops. Probably just from the weight of the utility machine. I would like to upgrade or change something about that hard hitting issue and still have all the luxuries of the Grizzly. I love this machine. I started out with sports quads, now I'm pro utility ATVs.

Great episode! I bought a 22 XTR last year and I love it! There is a huge following of Grizzly riders along with many aftermarket accessories. Rox sells a riser and handlebar set-up. Other typical mods are oversized foot pegs, lift kits, radiator relocate and snorkel kits (for deep mud), clutching; you get the idea. Amazing machines and very reliable! Keep up the great content! 👍

I just drilled out the handle bar weights on my 2018 Grizzly 700eps and added the Acerbis Uniko ATV Handguards, they look awesome. The drill bits I used were 1/4", 3/8", 9/16", and finished with an 11/16". The weights are 3.25" long. Drill bits were as much as a set of handlebars. It was expensive and hard to drill straight through the weights, but I think it is worth it now that it's done.

I am 50 years old now and have an old Kodiak 400 and I'm tired of it kicking my a** when driving it aggressively. I always wanted a sport quad so I've been looking to get a Raptor 700, but now I am now second guessing my choice and I think a Grizzly maybe better. I don't want to purchase a new quad and regret it not fun enough, but I also don't want to purchase the Raptor and find out that it has the excitement, but it will also kick my a** on the all day trails I ride. Now that you rode the Grizzly what you you say about it compared to the Raptor? Obviously the Raptor is more exciting, but would you say the Grizzly can give excitement when pushed? I am not the rider that can stay riding slowly and is always pushing myself and the quad. Looking forwarded to your feedback.

but is the throttle placement good for the thumb??

I didn't have any issues but I'm a very medium sized person so if your big or small it may not be as comfortable👍

How was the heat on it? I hear some complaining it puts off a lot of heat on that left leg.
@PeteHager
@PeteHager 5 ай бұрын
I only rode it with my full riding gear on so it offers quite a bit of heat protection. I didn't notice anything abnormal 👍

dumb question but is there any change in performance that you noticed riding at higher atlitude
@PeteHager
@PeteHager Жыл бұрын
Actually that’s a great question. I learned after the ride to expect a 3% power loss per thousand feet of elevation. We were riding between 7-9k feet so roughly 21-27% power loss overall. Hopefully I’ll get to try one at a lower elevation eventually because it was a bit under powered 👍

on that grizly, u only use 4 wheel drive when u need 4x4. other than that u should always be in 2 wheel drive.

I disagree, to a point. As long as it’s not on a hard pack surface, there’s no harm.

@@kingkracker1998 Of course, but that’s a matter of personal preference, and saying “u should always be in 2 wheel drive” isn’t entirely accurate.

whats their future plans for sports quads though? 250-350 sports quad would be nice again.
@PeteHager

Unfortunately I couldn’t get any info or updates on future sport quads. I did however get confirmation that they will not be stopping sport quad production anytime soon. The market desperately needs a mid size entry level sport quad to transition youth riders to the higher performance machines 🙏🤞

@PeteHager 9 ай бұрын
I wish they would’ve had a Kodiak for us to try. If you’re doing any utility work at all the Kodiak seems like a better choice. I loved the seat on that Grizzly but my feet always dragged across the top because I’m only 5’10. Its kind of a pain to get on and off of regularly lol

These r cruisers, not sport bikes. Wheelie into and over rocks dont work for long, you’ll break. Just cruise man. Notice when you were behind the boys at the end, they are just chillin, cruising. Youre trying to do sport quad things on a utility quad.
