There's something wrong with the fishermen. They turned their backs on him and tried to pretend. That's not bravery. It's ignorance and stupidity.

Don't EVER run with a bear nearby. It triggers an attack. At 2:10 this grizzly is considering charging and pouncing on that guy loping through the water. 3 full bounds out of that bear and he would have been mauled.

You're exactly right. These guys are in the bears territory. C'mon guys Throw him a couple fish. I was actually routing for the bear. Well I am from Alaska and I have been to this river several times to fish! The bear is not in the wrg! If you have a bear coming at you, you toss him your fish! This is the bears environment, we are just visitors on these rivers and guess what if you want to live to fish another day you toss your fish. They are lucky that this was not a full grown Grizzly. The rangers say to scare the bears off (just been through several national parks), throw rocks, shout - don't yield food or give them fish - lock up all food/scents etc. Need to keep them discouraged from seeing humans as a food source to keep them safe/respectful - bears that are pests or fed will be put down, they become a danger. So throwing the rocks & scaring the bear off probs saved it's life - & probably a fishermans.

Yes, it is ok to throw rocks. In fact that bear should have received the hazing of its life, but instead it learned that humans = food. Not too good. Bear spray, bear horn and rock throwing would have done the trick. Wild animals MUST be taught that humans are dangerous. Also a good idea to be packing heat in a bear zone in case hazing causes the bear to attack.

David, you are right, it seems some morons here rather have a Bear come into an area where there are some people gathered for fishing and make the excuse that the humans are the problem. It is a good fishing spot but there are many others out there along the river and fishermen don't like to be alone with these beasts so they will band together taking up less areas.....However, there may be some irresponsible fishermen leaving their catch and food around so I say shame on them, this is the other valid point. As you said, a couple of big rocks landing on the head of the bear and it would have learned a painful lesson. Remember their skulls are way thicker so no damage to the bear. I see this bear being now more of a problem as it is not afraid of a large number of fishermen. Imagine being solo and this beast finding you....I'll have a 44 magnum revolver (minimum) with some hot and heavy buffalo bore "bear round", please. Thanks

Ok city people let me try and put this into a perspective that you might understand. First of all there are hundreds of thousands of Salmon in the river, there are plenty of fish in Alaska to go around for everybody, humans and wildlife so that is not an issue (and all of the salmon are going to die in the river after they spawn anyway). So with hundreds of thousands of fish that bear does not need to steel fish from the fisherman, he is capable of catching his own but he finds it easier to steel fish from fisherman. This is creates a situation that is dangerous for both the bear and the fisherman. Again the bear is not steeling there fish due to a lake of resource, he/she is more than capable of catching there own salmon which are in abundance during the salmon run. Imagine if there was a rat that kept steeling your food from your home. What would you do? You would try to scar it away and get it to stop steeling your food, there is plenty more food around the city for the rat to eat. If you can't scare the rat and it continues to steel form you and other people, you are eventually going to kill it one way or another, especially if you are concerned that the rat could pose a threat to your health and safety or the health and safety of others. In Alaska it is no different with a bear, the bear needs to learn that people are dangerous, and that steeling from people is dangerous or it is going to end up dead. If people do nothing to try and scare the bear and do nothing to teach the bear that steeling from people is dangerous that bear is going to almost for sure going to end up dead. Not to mention a bear that does not fear people is also a sitting target for poachers in Alaska. Again there are plenty of salmon for the bear to eat, just because going to fisherman is easier than catching your own does not mean that its safe or an OK thing to do, nor is it an OK thing to let the bear learn that it is an OK thing to confront humans and steel fish from them! Letting the bear steel fish from humans is dangerous for both the bear and the fisherman. Bears are smart, if people continue to act aggressive towered this bear every time he tries to steel from them, then he will eventually learn that people are dangerous and to catch his own salmon rather than steeling from the fishermen which leads to conflict. If the bear learns that people are dangerous and its not safe to steel from them then he will learn to avoid the fisherman and catch is own fish. If the bear leans that people are dangerous then the fishermen and the bears can both utilize the resource and catch salmon without conflict..

Well obviously use common sens, you don't want a bear to be cornered, and you definitely don't want to mess with a mother bear with cubs. Most of the time younger bears are actually the more dangerous ones, like the bear in this video that doesn't have a fear of humans. The sub adult young bear in this video is just as capable of killing somebody as a full grown male. Most "full grown males" aren't an issue because in order to grow to be a full grown male they need to not get killed and thus have a fear of people. If a bear has cubs don't mess with it, but if a bear is approaching you for food your best standing your ground initially, or trying to scare it off. It is not worth it for them to get into a confrontation when they can catch their own food. There's a difference between provoking and sanding your ground. In the video the bear was coming at them, and they threw rocks at it to get him to go away. It would be totally different if they were the ones approaching the bear and started throwing rocks it. If a bear is being attacked its libel to defend itself, but if the bear is the one that is pursing something that stands its ground it most of the time leave it alone especially if it gets scared, worst case scenario if it doesn't respond to your efforts, then leave him the fish but if a bear decides it wants to eat somebody it will eat them weather they fight back or not. Also there is this thing called a gun and everybody in the country has one. If a bear does charges somebody you shoot it.

Guide's responsibility to manage conduct of his fishermen. This is an example of how not to do it starting with the basic rule: while facing the bear, back off, don't run. stop fishing and immediately release a fish on your line. I live in Juneau Alaska. I have multiple black bears in my yard every day all spring and summer. We almost never have grizzlies in Juneau. Blackies and grizzlies don't tend to range together, they will try to kill each other, the griz usually wins. A griz will generally leave you alone unless its hungry, or has cubs around, in which case it will eat you. Blackies are just ornery nasty creatures who will attack and maul you for no apparent reason. I've been charged several times. Bears are usually on you before you can respond. Those fishermen would have been smarter to all back away slowly and given the griz all the room it wanted. I carry a 12 gage full choke Remington shotgun, and my .357 Ruger Super Blackhawk. I'm older now so stopped carrying my .44 Ruger Super Blackhawk, though it's a better bear gun it's heavier, plus I have small hands and I could easily fumble while cocking it. I load the shotgun with 3 slugs, then two scatter, followed by four rest slugs. If you can get 3 slugs in it by then it's right on you and two blasts with scatter might blow it's face off, and then if you are still standing you can pump more slugs. I have two friends who were seriously mauled, and a coworkers father was the last man on the trail of a group of six on Admiralty Island, a griz circled to the back, took Mr. Sievertson, disemboweled him in one swipe and was eating him when his hunting buddies turned around when they heard his screams. You can't let it paralyze you from enjoying the woods but you have to be ready. They move like lightening fast. They almost always circle behind you if their intent is to eat you. Pepper bear spray is bullshit, it just makes you taste better and will not stop a bear. On Admiralty Island the grizzlies rush toward the sound of a gun as they have learned there may be a dear for them to steal. Many people get attacked while gutting a dear they just shot. One person guts the dear and the other stands watch. I make no bones about it, if it means me dead or the bear dead I'll do my best to kill the bear. We have lots and lots of bears....

That looks like a scratch log at the beginning of the video and it looks like he'd been at it for a while . You might have all been unwittingly invading his fishing hole and that's why he figured the fish were all his. - Good things to look for and stay away from before you set up to fish. Looks like it ended up okay though. - As for the guy who thought the bear wouldn't be back, - absolutely he will unless a bigger bear pushes him off the territory!

I been to Russian River. Pretty cool area. The thing is, that's his fishing spot too. LOL We have only black bears in Ketchikan. I lived in Anchorage for two years. Went on a trip into Denali. Saw a Griz with three cubs. Huge freaking Griz!!

The one thing you can use on a bear that will make it retreat is pepper spray. Bears have the most sensitive nose of any animal so pepper spray will make them run.

Human hunting and habitat destruction has absolutely crashed bear populations in the US. We're much more of a threat to them then they are to us. Notice there's about 50 fishermen to one lone bear. Yet he's called "the beast" in the video. He needs the fish to survive these fisherman are doing it for sport.

Not at all, the bear may be hungry but he/she's more scared of us than we should be of it. Make your stand, with your hands over your head and talking very boldly to the bear and it will run off. Those fishermen would be left with the fishing hole to themselves. I know because I have the experience with bears to know what I'm talking about.

Yes. For people at all interested in bears and human aversion, check out of the Karelian bear dog hard release program utilized in Idaho and my home state Washington. It seems cruel, but the whole point of the program is to protect the bears from habituating to humans.

I was on the Russian River in the fishing hole by the falls last week and a grizzly and her cub came out of the bushes and was not 10' away from us when we noticed. We backed away slowly, speaking calmly. Then some locals started throwing their carcasses down river, so those bears definitely associate us with handouts, but they did luckily catch some fish on their own before leaving.

All life including humans are precious. This earth is home to those that walk on it. There are no boundaries and there should never be one. We are all alike and we all have similar roles in life. Humanity sometimes forgets it’s place and job in the ecosystem

They need to find a place to fish where they won't encounter bears. People have the option to find places, including stores. Bears are limited to what is left in the wild. But people still go there in crowds like this, take fish and throw rocks at the bears trying to survive, it is bullshit. They are not beasts.

***** What?! They are the VERY definition of a beast! I'm going to wager that you support aborting human children but would wail at the possibility of the death of a young animal/beast. I know I'm right so you needn't reply.
@neaituppi7306
@neaituppi7306 9 жыл бұрын
Raoul Carggarglin It saves the hassle of actually communicating with people. I would feel the same about the death of a young animal as a young human kid or baby that already has been born. But that is not the same as abortion. I wouldn't mind if a bear was somehow able to abort its unborn baby. As far as the dictionary, they can be called beasts, as they are four legged and they can be dangerous. But it is used derogatorily often by people. And I know you would have n problem with calling it a beast, and would likely go up and shoot it in the head without the slightest regret. As it is a worthless beast. I know it is true, don't bother replying. lol.

You would probably take a plane to anchorage, then a small biplane to katmai, $5000 in. Then go to the most heavily bear populated river. Maybe around where Tim Treadwell was killed. And say fuck these bears, I want to live. Then you can say you had no choice, the beast came right for you. What good are they to civilization? {This is a joke}

gone fishin5:25 PM Have options to go to stores????? Boy you are one big DF, good luck in life you SB! I quoted this, because after this, the person won't be seeing my comments. It is easier for a lot of people on the internet to call someone a dumb fuck, or son of a bitch, or DF and SB, if you are trying to pretend you are moral., if they don't agree with them. Rather than respectfully disagree. My issue isn't with fishing, it is with fishing in places where confrontations with wild animals living there, might happen. Which could lead to injury and death with the person, and most likely with the animal. You can probably fish in the same stream at a location where the bears don't habitually go to. The rock throwing happens a lot, and sometimes it hits the bear. It may not really hurt them at all, and if I punch someone in the jaw, it may not hurt them at all. But it is a violent act, you traveled thousands of miles to do.
