Looking at buying a sliding table saw to replace my Powermatic 66. This is the only one I've found that you can get with 1 PH motor. This review is really, really helpful. I would make them rotate that magnetic power switch or I'd refuse to buy. Good job on this review, really!

The tape on the fence is not useless, the lil pin on the bottom of the fence can be tightened so it stays in same location so fence cant slide to and from blade , once you set the fence so it works with tape tighten the pin on the bottom and there you go from now on every time it will be same location . You welcome i just bought the saw today and i seen your video loong time ago so i was worried you are right but luckily you not , meant in a good way! Also dust collection hose is flimsy so it pulls on riving knive solution is to insert plastic pipe inside the hose ,about 30” loong and that will keep pipe sturdy above the table and you can play with it to make it actually not pull at all , i know it dont make sence but it works I did it and it’s perfect, pipe is right in the area above the table and end has nonpipe so it can nicely bend to guard , same on the other side pipe stops just before hose bends down to floor ( sorry hope you know what i mean ) love the saw !!!!

Several years ago I was seriously looking at a Felder or Hammer sliding saw but had some house projects come up that ate into my saw upgrade funds. The project list (meaning money going out) has continued to grow so I am going to have to lower my sights on the type of saw I can buy. I had ruled out getting a slider and have been stuck in analysis-paralysis between the Powermatic PM2000, Saw Stop Pro or the Delta Unisaw (very good saws in their own right but definitely cheaper than the sliders I had been looking at). I wasn't aware of this Grizzly saw until I came across your video. I have always been a bit leery of Grizzly products (only a perception as the only Grizzly products I am familiar with are their maple bench tops and a bench top drill press that my son owns that he has never complained about). I might have to take a very serious look at this Grizzly saw to further add to my paralysis.

I was thinking of getting a sawstop and the sliding table as kind of a best of both worlds, but then i started reading about euro sliding saw style like this one, and how the table slides right next to the blade and how much safer it is. And now i'm thinking the sawstop is still a pain cuz you stand behind blade, put hand by blade, and its sliding table isn't nearly as nice as this one, or the other expensive euro saws like minimax. Your video has sold me, i'm getting a GO623x after my 3rd stall shop is complete. Thanks for the in depth review!

The cross cut fence should be installed at the front of the sliding bed like every Martin, Felder or Altendorf. Does grizzly have that fixed to the rear of the bed?

Love it, I have a question, how the scoring blade performs on melamine? Would it take care of the chipping?
@tracdfar6 жыл бұрын
I think the dust collection definitely needs work, probably a rigid tube instead of that flimsy hose. Also, you were spot on about the scale on the crosscut fence. I would like to have heard more emphasis on the safety of this saw. Particularly, not having to stand behind the cut and never needing to have your hands near the blade. Also, many guys who use a slider keep the crosscut fence in the forward position and reference material against it at the front of the cut rather behind it. This makes reaching the on/off switch a little easier after setting up a cut and encourages you work to the side of the blade, not behind it. Overall, a very nice review despite the sound issue. Thanks!

Hi, great Chanel by the way. Just one thing that might help you, the stud on your crosscut fence should lock in position so you can then use the tape accurately every time you take the fence on and off. We have a lot of these saws in the uk and it would be a nightmare if you had to reference the tape every time. Hope this helps you enjoy your saw even more.

Thanks for the long-form review, loved it. Assuming you have the stock 5HP motor, is it a soft start motor (e.g. induction)? Do you know who makes the motor? Is it a Leeson? Thanks man.

I think several of your complaints come from you using inefficient techniques for several different operations on the table saw. you also shouldn't have to be taking the miter fence off and on regularly if you actually need a sliding table saw. They are predominantly designed and used for production work of larger stock and are not intended to be a universal table saw. They can be used for many different setups but they are not really designed to be doing small, finicky woodworking. They are really designed to be good cabinet saws. Just my two cents. You have several valid points in this video. I just think having better knowledge of what the saw is intended for would probably have given you a better experience. It sounds like you would get better use out of a standard table saw instead of a sliding table saw.
@richardlug61392 жыл бұрын
All I can say is BS there is no reason that saw can not be used for most projects and how do you know what he uses the saw mainly for in the first place? When he made this video he was still getting use to it (only 8 months using it is not very long) I bet by now he is quite comfortable with it.

I have a particular piece of grizzly equipment that I had to repair 13 separate issues straight out of the box. Didn't get to use the Grizzly product for a month, and it was brand new. They sent me a defective warranty part, parts that didn't even fit, and there was a back ordered part needed. I'll never buy a grizzly product again.

I own a Hammer sliding table saw, thats part of the Felder lower end group in Australia. The Europeans make woodworking machines that no other country comes close to, not even the good ole USA, in fact were just recently starting to see USA manufactures finally start offering it. I checked out all the saws, and none of them come close to European saws. If your a serious woodworker, and u want a precise machinery, that's Heavy Duty everyday use, that's even pretty to look at, Felder is it! Your gonna pay more, but at the end u will be Happy u did. These are machines u do not get rid of!!
@daviddavis56896 жыл бұрын
But the European cost a arm and a leg.
@dannyh.74906 жыл бұрын
Yes the Europeans do make the best sliding table saws and your starting to find more and more used ones on the market due to the fact that many cabinet shops are going to CNC machines. The problems you encounter with commercial grade sliders is that most run off three phase power which would require the purchase of a three phase converter in a home shop and those are expensive. Also most of them are very large and take up too much room for most home shops. And Felder isn't the only European Co. that makes sliding table saws nor are they the best. The largest manufacturer of sliding table saws is SCMI, which is Italian based. The also have a subsidiary called MiniMax, which markets a slightly less expensive line. I know because I've owned one for many years and the saw has been flawless in it's performance for almost 13 years now and it was far less expensive than the Felder saw I was considering. Other very respected Co's that manufacture or market sliding table saws include German Co.'s such as Altendorf and Martin. And there are a host of other Co's such as Paolini, Cantek, etc. Not all of these Co's manufacture or market compact versions of these type saws and the one's that do are still quite pricey so I for one appreciate that Grizzly is now offering these in a compact version at an attractive price. It's obvious to me that from VriginiaWoods demonstration that the Grizzly isn't as beefy or as finely engineered as my MiniMax, but it does appear to be satisfactory for the home owner or serious hobbyist. I'm a cabinet maker myself but now that I'm in retirement and putting my tools in my smaller home shop this Grizzly is attractive to me and I may end up purchasing one.

Thanks for the in depth review! I've been eyeing this saw but my only reason to not get it was the smaller breakdown capacity. Can you rip 4x8's using the slider and fence? Or would you track saw panels down to size first? Thanks
@dreamblades7 жыл бұрын
Retro-Tech it depends on how much of the 4x8 sheet you are cutting off. For example if you are just crosscuting 6" off of the 8' piece then not really. But if you are breaking it down into 24" sections then yes the saw can handle the full 4x8 sheet. Hope that helps answer you question. Please feel free to ask any others about t he saw
@BuzzyMcGraw7 жыл бұрын
Retro Tech I’ve had mine for almost two years now and it’s been a great time saver for me. I run the crosscut fence in the back position mostly because I primarily use the slider for plywood. I have my optimizer set to rip sheet first which I do with my conventional cabinet saw then I go to the slider for the rest of the cuts. I have broke down 4x8 sheets by cross cutting first but it can be awkward loading full sheets by yourself. I use a Leg Up on cabinet saw with a Gorilla Gripper and it works well. Virginia wood smith- the pin on the bottom of the crosscut fence is supposed to be tightened down. Cut a 10” test piece of scrap with the rip fence once that is set and use it to get the crosscut fence close. Then you can micro adjust the crosscut fence tape with the Allen screw on top. Mine actually trimmed the black plastic on the fence end slightly.
@steinbierz7 жыл бұрын
Buzzy...any aftermarket items you have added to your saw after having it for several years? I'm gathering that there is a lot of bang for the buck with this saw (many say the same for Grizzly's cabinet saws if you are willing to spend more time doing your own QA) so makes it not hurt so much when you make upgrades.

Loved the review. Been trying to decide between this, the g0820, the Hammer K3 and the SawStop with the larger sliding table. Really thinking this is the best option for the money. Once you start using European saws, I think the SawStop safety feature is way less important. I have other grizzly products (dust collector and jointer) and have been pretty pleased with them - not always pristine quality, but still very good quality. I did have one question about the ripping fence though. It seems similar to the Hammer K3 model and that one seems to have a little flex in it when under pressure at the far end. Have you ever had any issues with it not being completely parallel to the blade?
@dreamblades6 жыл бұрын
I have not really had any since I received my replacement fence as the first one was not straight. Regarding your concern about flex, it is not really a concern since the piece has already passed through the blade by that point and the part of the fence that is next to the blade is very well supported and I have not noticed any flex.
