Strange and familiar at the same time, as if it's a person and these two feelings are melting into one another into a form you can't understand. Something like that. The drumming on this and Three Rings is astonishing in both it's creativity and technical proficiency. I'm excited for this album.

The aura of this song is so deep and dark that I often think back to it in terms of the prequel to the pandemic, hence the nod to a crumbling form after thousands of years built up. How it’s chaos but it works. It has that mystery of the infinite beckoning while we create structure within it. Again, my mind turns back to this song when I think of the ways we live through our persistent growth nonetheless. This is a masterpiece, the sole staple for me to return to Painted Ruins time and again. Like it’s a premonition in a song and that we were always building up to a plateau. Quite morbid

I'm speechless. The music video is choreographed so well with the music. And I couldn't say how much I was feeling this song after that familiar guitar line came in at 2:05, that most of us know from the set of mysterious videos they released. I have to go to bed. But fuck, I have to listen to this again.

Over here: pitchfork.com/features/interview/10082-grizzly-bear-discuss-painted-ruins-their-first-album-in-five-years/ they talk about 'Sky Took Hold' which Pitchfork describes as a closing opus, and it's the last track, so we might very well get a new 8 minute track or something. Can't wait. I mean, even that name suggests something big.

I guess this was about the band relocating to California, the kind of impermanence and anxiety that comes from being uprooted, like a cypress, but when seeing it with the video and conjuring up these strange images of a childhood, it just leaves me with the most desolate feeling. Pure desolation, a dreadful sound as they say, a sort of terrifying dread

Yes. I’m not sure what makes the energy in this song so desperate but it’s something that has not let me forget about it even after so few listens. Like how some movies are so great that you don’t need to see them twice. It has tinges of anticipation in some ways. It’s eerie

Instead of moving You stared into the wall Tangled up in a pile It's early Make no sound Living in a pile It's chaos but it works Planes flying overhead so early Dreadful sound Four cypresses seen from a neighbor's yard No memory A future, drawing down Planes flying overhead so early Make no sound Four cypresses torn from the roadside Great thundering noise from the hillside Some thousands of years built up Some crumbling form to be torn down Living in a pile Tangled in a pile It's chaos but it works

Trying to figure out what the cypresses mean. I think its daniel rossen understanding that the four of them (grizzled bear) are no longer humans but trees, old, dying trees. at least he picked a cool cyprus tree to be. but anyways their music is pretty much over with now. not expecting much from the new album since lennon died. beatles covers would be sick tho

August whatever-it-is can't come fast enough! I remember a recent summer album that rocked my world and became one of my all-time favs. Can you guess what it was? (It was Tame Impala's "Currents"). Do I think Grizzly Bear's new album will be even close to that great? Probably not. But I got my fingers crossed.
