The country's finest echo tunnel?

Tucked away in a fold of moorland 1200ft above sea level, next to the highest motorway in the UK, is one of the finest echo tunnels in the country!
A whispered "hello" into the 6ft diameter man made tunnel entrance brings back a booming HELLO from the depth of the Pennines!
This tunnel became quite the tourist attraction back in the day to hear the echoes from one's voice bouncing back at you, but now it's just a memory long forgotten.
Constructed in 1898 as a compensation tunnel for the green withens reservoir - one of Wakefield Water Board’s biggest holdings, with a capacity of over three hundred million gallons
The tunnel runs for 850 feet into the hillside and is sealed by two giant sluice gates each of which take 750 turns on a geared wheel to open and close.
It used to be opened at 5am everyday to feed the mills of the Rishworth valley and close at 5pm everyday. There is no use for it now with no working mills left in the area.
When the Reservoir was being constructed, the tunnel served another purpose - a short cut to the wall that was to hold back millions of gallons of water.
Stone was brought from local quarries along a railway line that ran from Derby Bar to the edge of the site.
When the trains could go no further, the stone was transferred to bogies and hauled through the tunnel by horses to where it was needed.
