Shapers are one of the most versatile tools in the shop. For the hobbyist who is interested in expanding his skills I wouldn't get less than a 3 hp machine. For the person hoping to do some more serious work the machines with 1 1/4" spindles and 5 hp. will serve them well. That is enough power and mass to be able to effectively use a power feed. The feed allows for higher quality cuts and much safer operation. For those new to the tool here is an excellent video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap-Zqod-gqeLa5Y Be safe. I have 6 shapers, 5 feeds. I also am setup to profile grind for custom knives. It is possible to make custom cutters with nothing more than a good bench grinder, some lock edge steel and cutter heads.

Hi there! The G1035, W1674, G1026, G5912Z, G7214Z, G0608X & G9933 all take router bits, however all will need to have a router bit spindle adapter, which is an additional purchase. I hope that helps!
