Astonishing endurance. Leigh, you were amazing. But it took 5 x Leighs to make it happen in the end, unsurprisingly. Wow. Fetch me a blanket and a glass of wine, I’m jittery just watching this ice drama!

Leigh, that was an amazing effort under brutal conditions! I think your approach to the extraction was well considered. Getting that ice slab removed from the front of the tires was key, but who carries heavy ice breaking tools?? I don't think the winch would have helped without that cleared. Much respect to you sir. I was really struck by Steph's snapshot at 1:51. I kept replaying it. I saw something new in her eyes,..what was it? You know, she may not be the same innocent girl who left Paris. I think she is becoming wise. Thank you for sharing your adventure!

Thanks heaps David that means a lot from you 😉 Always learning that's for sure. I've had 4x4s stuck in almost every different situation countless times over the last 20 years but this was a first for me. Not so many frozen rivers to cross in outback Australia 😜 We did initially try winching off the small truck but he was way too light and we just dragged him backwards. No trees in this region of Mongolia either... I considered trying to dig a sand anchor using my spare tyre but the ground was rock solid and I reckon it would of taken all night. Stephy is definitely not the same Parisian girl that I met in Thailand 11 years ago that's for sure. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger 😉

Hi lift jack next to the tyre, tie to rim and lift each Tires so one can get traction boards under them. Do it for each tire that lost traction. If one have lockers, just for both tires on same axel. One can also use a hydraulic jack but then one need to make some fittings for safety for it. Yet another cool video from you guys.

Wow. What an adventure! And you both did so good in that situation. It's always important to acknowledge the stress and fear in times like this. Believe me I've been in stuck in some holes in my days. One required me to dig out .75m of snow the width of my vehicle, and about 150m long. Hard work, consistent effort, and nothing but determination. Good on ya guys!
@manulqmj65335 жыл бұрын
Wow, amazing ! Glad that you guys and your truck survived that trial. Just a small tip if it might help : usually the end of the day is the worst time with brittle ice, because after warming all the day long, this is when the ice is the hotest. In doubt, whenever it's possible, it's safer to wait for the early morning.

I've been following with great interest. Bought my first Land Rover in 1969. Being poor as a church mouse my only recovery gear for years consisted of a shovel & hi lift jack. Not wanting to sound an armchair expert, but I got out of almost identical situations ( minus the ice) in rocky rivers by myself more than once. Your side rails look sturdy enough to take the weight. Tricky things to use though. Best wishes & safe travels,
@leighdearle59655 жыл бұрын
Thanks David A high lift may of worked you are correct although the ground was really soft and without a platform I'd be concerned of the high lift sinking with the weight. I carried a high lift for many years in Australia but ended up replacing with a good quality exhaust jack as I found it much more useful, lighter and safer. The exhaust jack is what really saved us in this river. We put it under the lowest side rock sliders, inflated and it lifted us right out of the mud. Then we slid the waffle boards under.
@DavidJohnson-cr5lq5 жыл бұрын
@@leighdearle5965 Thanks Leigh, good to hear, from the video, it looked as though it was useless, that's been my experience but then again, at the time I had one, the Landie probably had 90% exhaust loss by the time it got to the final exhaust & yes, the HI Lift would have needed a base plate - with a decent strap attached- good point about the safety.

Incredible determination! I’ve been in situations like that and you have to dig down deep. It’s scary Word of advice: You should drain the differentials and refill with fresh oil since they were submerged for that long.
@leighdearle59655 жыл бұрын
Very good advice, we did it already 😉 I change all transmission oils after any prolonged water submersion. I was actually surprised that the front and rear differentials had no water in them. There was a little bit in the transfer box.

Hi guys, just seeing your channel for the first time and really enjoying your travels! Great job working to get unstuck! I know this video is from 2019, but thought I'd mention when stuck like this or where there are no trees or anchor points I've used a typical "Danforth" style boat anchor to winch to (doesn't take a big anchor either and you'll get lots of fun questions from others asking, uhhhh, you have a boat anchor...haha!!). As you pull on it, it will sink into the ground (worked for us on frozen ground as well once it bites in) and will give you a strong anchor point. Sounds strange, but it works! Just a thought! Safe travels!
