I followed the transformation of your Defender with great interest. I am not reassured by the quality of the work. I have the impression that everyone does their job without looking at what the others are doing and no one has an global overview. I hope for you that the problems will stop and no bad surprises. Have a nice and safe trip!

You should consider removing the wheel spacers. It would be easier on all of the bearings and make your steering feel much better.

Its great to see you guys so rusted on and not giving up. Love your channel

So, the guys in Cape Town incorrectly shimmed the swivel ball hub bearings which cause the new bearings to fail. You only needed new top and bottom swivel ball bearings as the ball would be ok. The guys in Cape Town should cover the repair costs as it was their error. Then the guys in George did not tighten your drive member nut properly. Shame, the poor Landy's get the blame where it actually is human error.

Russell, you have hit it on the spot...not sure if the "Capetown guys" did work on the swivel balls, but...... Land Rover got it's bad reputation mainly due to bad after sales service.. It's sadly an old old story in RSA after BMW, later Ford, and now Tata bought the brand...they don't even use the Green Oval when marketing the new Pretender.. The old school LR mechanics are too old now, and the young ones only know electronics and how to remove and fit new parts, repairs don't exist. The saying was : "Give me a piece of wire and a pair of pliers, and I'll fix your Landy".... Later it became a zip tie/cable tie and side cutter. Today it's just luck and money that keeps your Landy going....

Yes we did only need new top and bottom bearings but didn't know that until it was pulled apart and couldn't take the risk to be stuck for longer. We wanted to be on the road and exploring, we've spent enough time in workshops haha

We all can and do make mistakes, and it’s easy to criticise. I will say my thoughts (of course lol), I feel the front wheel problem was mentioned in the last two videos as well. Obviously I’m not sure of actual time lines, or amounts driven, but felt that should have been acted upon earlier. Regardless, looks like a nice spot you visited and some of the flora reminds me of SEQ. Looks like some relations to lomandras in the creeks etc. Hopefully you can have some LR trouble free travels moving forward. Keep up the good work. 👍

@@davidsingleton7242 Hi; Fortunately some of us live in the real world where our objectives are to roam and experience the wonders of nature and the great outdoors on our limited budgets. I cannot afford to spend half my leisure time broken down on my way to a destination while I wait for spare parts which gobbles up what disposable income I do have. Sure; it's also an experience but DEFINITELY not my objective with overlanding; life is too short to spend my time throwing money into a bottomless pit just to join the crazy brotherhood of Land Rover lovers... I want to travel; hassle-free overland to experience the great outdoors; not go on a very expensive crash course on how to stop my wheels from breaking down while vacuuming my wallet.. I do love watching other idiots showing me what NOT to do though although I; gladly admit; I will miss out on the Land Rover brotherhood experience.......I view this brotherhood as "United Masochists Incorporated" The adventure is to go overlanding; NOT to go do some emergency roadside repairs while trying to get to my destination thank you...

The vast majority of problems with old Land Rovers arise from (a) lack of maintenance, (b) poor maintenance, or (c) poor quality parts. The swivel bearing failure so soon after fitting can only be the result of bad workmanship. The mechanic who did it should it should be ashamed. People should also recognise that this vehicle has been overlanding non-stop for 4 (or 6?) years. My own 32 year old Defender is in the final stage of a big trip around southern Africa. It has been magnificent. The few other vehicles of comparable age I have seen have been Land Rovers. What happened to the other marques? I guess they got scrapped years ago.

And The vehicle is constantly driven in tough conditions etc The videos could easily be edited to give the impression that the vehicle was always perfect, but that is not realistic Any overlanding vehicle, that is constantly driven in tough conditions etc, is going to have wear n tear, some breakages etc, and, thus, need ongoing maintenance etc..

Unfortunately it seems that you guys have also experienced a South African phenomenon called "kak diens". No pride in workmanship or the company that employs you. It pisses me off no end when people do half assed work. As a local in the Garden Route I can't say I'm totally surprised though. Better get the issues sorted here in RSA before you head up north. Botswana there are a few places that does work on Landies, however they're few and far between. Maun has a specialist that I know of.
