Thanks for posting this video! I couldn't have changed the cartridge without watching it and reading the comments. I had two problems. The first was that what you call the seal webbing, the silicone gaskets at the top of the cartridge, did not come out when I removed the cartridge. Fortunately you had mentioned to check for this so I looked inside the barrel and could see them so just pulled them out with a finger. Second, the tip of the cartridge that has a plastic piece aligning the handle was 180 reversed. As per the comments I just unscrewed it, pulled it off and rotated it, then screwed it back on. When you look at the plastic you'll see there are 2 rounded edges, those are on the side the handle will be. As to the people that asked about the direction of the screw holding the handle on, it's a normal screw and you turn it to the left with the allen wrench to loosen it. You don't need to take it all the way out, just enough so you can slip the handle off the shaft of the cartridge.

Thanks for posting the video. Identifying the faucet and cartridge part numbers and the hex key and socket sizes was extremely helpful. Also, the tip to check that the seal webbing is removed from the valve body was a life saver. After reading one of the earlier comments, I was able to determine that the plastic tip of the cartridge that fits into the handle had to be rotated 180° to fit properly. My faucet was leaking at the handle. The first time I installed the cartridge I tightened the cartridge nut as much as I could and the leak was worse. On the second attempt I tightened the nut just past hand tight and now there is no leakage. I think over tightening the cartridge nut may have warped the seals so they didn’t seat properly. Again, thanks for the no nonsense video.

this video helped a ton, saved me about $700, was about to buy a new faucet and call my plumber, keep in mind you might have to rotate the end of the cartridge that fits into the handle depending on how it was shipped, mine needed to be rotated 90 degrees, this grohe cartridge likely fits multiple faucets with different handle orientations

Appreciate the video. BUT when I reinstalled the 32mm nut “nice & tight”, the faucet handle became way too stiff. So I had to disassemble and loosen the 32mm nut. It does not leak even when this nut is only very gently tightened. ALSO: I almost wrecked my cartridge trying to push the faucet handle back in place. On closer inspection, the plastic tip of my cartridge had been factory-assembled upside-down (thanks Grohe). Luckily you can unscrew the tip and flip the plastic fitting right-side up. Hope this keeps someone else from suffering like I did.

Thanks for the heads up on the plastic tip. Not sure I would have caught that first time around had I not read your comment first.

Hi. I have read this a couple of times…can you explain the plastic tip and how to identify if it is sitting right or needs adjusting? Seems many people are having to adjust in this thread, but I am a ‘rookie’ and I am not sure at all what I would be looking out for. Thank you in advance:)!

This worked great. A few issues: (1) The lever was stuck on. I bathed it in boiling water, vinegar, and sprayed a little bit of penetrating lubricant and I was able to pull it off. (2) In my faucet's configuration, the little plastic thingy that turns up and down to control volume was upside down (the lever would have been facing the wrong way). I unscrewed it (Phillips head screw), flipped it upside down, and screwed it back in. (3) I didn't have a deep 32mm socket handy and picked one up from an auto parts shop. Worked fine, but I was glad I had a ratchet; it was on there pretty tight. (4) The faucet leaked after installing the new cartridge. I happened to have a set of Grohe screw couplings and replaced my screw coupling with a new one which was *slightly* thicker than the existing one; the leak went away.

edit: your instructions are great. below is just a rant about my overall experience trying to do ANYTHING plumbing in my house. What I hate about home plumbing is EVERYTHING IS STUCK AND/OR ready to start dripping when you touch it. my list of fails: turning water off, cold ok, hot won't fully shut.... . unscrew handle.. wont' come off, stuck.. ok quit. turn water's back on... oh, guess what, they will only turn on 50%. just becuase. awesome, OH, and now the cartrige leaks on hot AND cold, was just hot before. plumbing makes me seem like a complete idiot.

My major problem was pulling the handle off. Bathing the inside of the handle (through the set-screw hole and the gap by the ring) with vinegar and WD-40 followed by pouring boiling water over the handle finally did the trick.

Great video, very helpful and quick. I especially appreciate your identification of the screw and socket metric sizes. One subtle oddity that I detected was that your set screw seems to be reverse threaded. Perhaps you flipped the video right-left by accident, or it is in a mirror. : )

Thanks for the video. You make it look easy. But, where could I find that 32mm socket? I've tried internet searches, but can't find it.

I installed my grohe cartridge replacement and it leaked everywhere. This was the only video to properly suggest taking out the webbing so it is not doubled up, which is what I was experiencing. Now it’s working good

@ken Samson thank you very much for your great video. Do I see correctly that you're tightening the screw counterclockwise? Meaning loosening it is clockwise?

Great video and explanations, thank you! I have a small leak under the faucet, can it also be cartridge related? It seems to be leaking from the plastic part goes down to the handle

Cartridge goes in only one way, but I don’t like where the handle sits. Is there a way to fine adjust the handle?

It appeared that the 3mm set screw was reverse threaded. Taking it out was tough to see as your hand was in the way. But putting it back in, it appears to be going in counterclockwise. True?

I cannot remove the handle! I removed the screw but it won’t move. It looks more than a “tight fit”. It won’t budge!

I am having the same issue - have tried pouring CLR over top and as well as something like wd40 with no luck. Grohe suggested using a hair dryer and i'm also going to try the suggestions in the comments here about boiling water and vinegar

Replaced the valve - question: the water isn’t flowing as quickly/ as much volume as the original (slightly leaking) valve. Is there a tweak for better volume? Thanks!

@@vasanthurairajah7132@patmegbrioli There’s a small 2.5mm allen/hex screw on the metal cartridge spindle that you can turn to increase of decrease water flow (it basically adjusts the travel of the faucet lever and thus how far you can turn the faucet on)

Adjustable won't reach. But you can use a normal socket, as long as it's thin enough.
